Dodgers: Schmidt was in a battle with the Rockies in Monday's home opener when he suffered a right hamstring injury covering first base, so his availability is questionable. If he can't go, among the candidates to replace him are Mark Hendrickson and Chad Billingsley.

Padres: Peavy has had two topflight performances to open the season. On Sunday, he pitched seven innings, allowing one run on five hits, walking two, one intentionally, and striking out four. In the season opener against San Francisco, he tossed six scoreless innings while striking out six and walking two. The right-hander has gotten a lot of mileage out of his changeup and slider. Peavy is 6-1 with a 2.40 ERA against the Dodgers in his career.
