Worst-Case Scenario, Part 1

Inside the Dodgers just posted that Jason Schmidt is indeed headed for the DL. No more details from yesterday's MRI were given.

UPDATE: Jason Schmidt is going to go on the disabled list with inflammation of the bursa sac in his right shoulder. Right now, the prescription is rest and we don't really have a timetable for his return. As soon as we have more info, we'll pass it along.

Crap. No comments on who replaces Schmidt in the rotation, though early speculation is narrowing in on either Mark Hendrickson or Hong-Chih Kuo.

Dodger Thoughts commenter "bhsportsguy" noted: "Jason Schmidt suffered a similar issue back in 2005, he was disabled with a similar issue, he missed two weeks and still made 29 starts. He started 2004 with on the DL with a generally descrbed shoulder strain and still made 32 starts. Sounds like this is something that comes up and both Ned and Stan Conte are very familiar with it." Gosh, I hope so.

UPDATE 5.59p: ESPN reports more details:

"We are going to give it a few days to let it calm down. Hopefully it's just a short term thing," Dodgers manager Grady Little said. The Dodgers have not made a corresponding roster move and Little did not name a starter for Thursday at Colorado. Schmidt is 1-2 with a 7.36 ERA.
