Post-Game 85 Thread: Weak In The Red Zone

DIAMONDBACKS 5, DODGERS 3

The Dodgers wasted a crapload of scoring opportunities tonight (3-for-16 with RISP), especially in the late innings when they had the bases loaded with none out in the seventh (one run would score), and first-and-third with none out in the eighth (none would score).

Mark Ellis, dead to rights at home on a weak pop fly off the bat of James Loney, thanks to the arm of Jason Kubel.

But the biggest missed opportunity was failing to notch a win in a game where Adam Kennedy got a HR, his first HR since July 20, 2011 (when he was with the Mariners, against Toronto). This was a man who hit three HR in a playoff game (still the most amazing offensive performance I've witnessed live in a post-season game), but in 2012 has but a 69 OPS+. Kennedy got a birthday present, but it ended up being a tease.

Clayton Kershaw was solid until a five-run sixth inning undid him. Bobby Abreu went 3-for-5 and had a sweet sliding catch in the bottom the sixth that stopped the bleeding. James Loney, who is hitting something like .925 at Chase Field, also had a multi-hit game (2-for-5), but grounded weakly to third to end the game (with a RISP).

Dodgers slip back to a half-game lead over the Giants. Two more to play before the All-Star break.

@ Saxy

My avatar went out of commission like the Dodgers offense in June and perhaps July. ?
