Just Over One Day To Deadline

And here's the rumors swirling this morning, courtesy MLB Trade Rumors.com:

The Dodgers, interested in even more power at the corners, may be in the hunt for Justin Morneau, acc. to Jon Heyman:

At least the Dodgers, Blue Jays and Giants appear to have some interest in Twins first baseman Justin Morneau, who is making a nice comeback this year.

The Dodgers are looking at a multitude of offensive options, perhaps as many as 10. Toronto always has liked the native Canadian. And the Giants have issues at first base, though interestingly they seem more focused on their outfield at the moment.

The Twins seem to have more appetite to trade Morneau than Josh Willingham or Denard Span. Morneau has about $19 million left on his contract through next year.

James Loney is showing a bit of life over there at first, going 7-for-18 (.389) with one double and two RBI in the last seven days. That said, he's batting .257 on the year with a .647 OPS. Morneau is batting .260 on the year with a .780 OPS (down from his career .846 OPS).

Meanwhile, up north, the Giants are looking for another outfielder, according to Buster Olney, who says "it would be a shocker" if they didn't pick one up. Shane Victorino and Hunter Pence are the names being knocked around.

The histrionic Victorino seems to be a perfect match for the Giants, from Dodger fans' perspective. Not that we'd be throwing at anyone's head or anything.

And finally, the Giants are going after reliever Brandon League, but we're inquiring as well (hopefully if for nothing more than to drive the price up).

There's no bullshit on THIS site, though, Nomo.

Note: I think this is one of the most terrible movies ever conceived and executed. I'm disappointed by its mere existence on earth.

Dodgers could swoop in and be a surprise dark horse on Cliff Lee by offering a package centered around Zach Lee and Allen Webster

Forget whether there is truth to it or not. What do you people think about that in a hypothetical?

Cliff Lee has been sucking so much this year for my fantasy team, Iono what's wrong with him.

I wish we could have gotten Garza. He's from the Fresno area and the last Fresno pitcher helped us out so much (lilly)

But really he is decent and his BF is my assistant at work so I could use some free tickets...

Tonight is my annual trip up to the Mariners' owners' suite. If Jack Zduriencik shows up, don't think I won't get him so drunk that Felix Hernandez will be wearing Dodger blue tomorrow.

Maybe I'll wear a fake mustache and cowboy boots to make him think I'm Ned. "Felix for Kemp? I wish but Kemp's extension isn't a year old yet so he can't be traded. But wait! I have this 3rd baseman named Juan that would fit your team perfectly! Great defense, hits the ball a mile when he connects! Here, have another beer, they're free don't-cha know!"

Garza's boyfriend is your assistant?

Garza's assistant is your boyfriend?

You "use" Garza's boyfriend?

It seems like Fresno is a much different place than I imagine it to be.

Zach Lee for Cliff lee would be a disaster.

I think we will land Dempster and Soriano from the Cubs. How good would he look in LF?

Franklin Stubbs said...

Soriano is pretty whifftastic. I'd still pass.

But would the mythical "change of scenery" effect work on Soriano? Then he might be worth it.

MR.F said...

Who is being talked about (that we'd give up) in the Dempster-Soriano deal?

What are Dempster and Soriano's current contracts?

Wicks said...

Soriano is hitting .274 with 19 HR's and 61 RBI

Dempster is 5-5 2.25 ERA

Have not seen who we would have to give up, I would guess Lee and probably another top prospect.

Heard that Zach Lee, Allen Webster and Chris Reed are all off the table in any Dempster talks.

Matty lives down the road from me. Good kid.

Paul said...

Top prospects off the table? What have you bastards done with Ned!??!

Dusty Baker's Toothpick said...

Dempster & Soriano would cost us 2-3 non-top 100 prospects.

There would have to be some cash coming back from the Cubbies to Dodgers to help pay for the Soriano contract.

@Stubbs

Fresno is all you imagined and more!

(cries)

Can we get Dempster for SoSG Nomo?

spank said...

City Lights!!!!

MR.F said...

So Dempster is a free agent after this season. Soriano has 2 more years on his contract at $18MMper.

Steve Sax said...

Soriano would only be good if the pavilions need better air conditioning from all of his many whiffs.

Dusty Baker said...

Yeah not keen on Sorry-ano. But presumably getting Dempster and not giving up much would mean us having to let Cubs offload Sorry on us as punishment.

Not really Iiking any of that. Rather focus on either Garza or another pitcher that wouldn't require giving up Zach Lee.

Loney and Urine for Cliff Lee, right?!?

MR.F said...

I didn't realize that Soriano has been a consistent "plus" defender in LF ever since the move according to UZR and TZ, per fangraphs.

Franklin Stubbs said...

Well, it would be reasonable, considering he moved over from the middle infield (which position he admittedly did not play particularly well, but still)

MR.F said...

Yeah, it makes sense. I guess I would have expected him to hover around average, but he's had some quality UZR seasons (mixed with a some average ones, admittedly).

Hitting and fielding for 81 games in Wrigley has a way of padding one's traditional stats.

I need to vent about Victorino! Why the hell are we after him?
