Post-Game 82 Thread: Down Go The Reds

DODGERS 3, REDS 1

Just like we had drawn it up, James Loney came up in the bottom of the seventh and stroked a single, and then newcomer Luis Cruz doubled him home for the go-ahead run. Cruz took third base on Loney's clumsy-but-safe slide home, and then Cruz tried to squeeze home on the first pitch to Tony Gwynn Jr. Gwynn didn't have a shot at laying down the bunt, but the pitch was high and wild and allowed Cruz to score the third run anyway.

Scott Elbert gets the win after Chris Capuano pitched a great game. Kenley Jansen notched a save. And the Dodgers get the win and, coupled with the Giants' loss in Washington, sit a half game out of first. Rubber match tomorrow!

Quite of the day, from Mattingy via Dylan Hernandez' LAT article, regarding James Loney and how his speed rounding third rapidly abated:

"He came around third and I thought he had it easy. Then the parachute opened up."
