A Trip Down Memory Lane

While shopping for my elder son's Star Wars-infused third birthday, I came across three things that reminded me the more things stay the same, the more they change.

Remember trying to find Boba Fett or Ree-Yees and only sifting through dozens of GUYS LIKE THIS?

Still true. Not a Bib Fortuna in sight (or even General Madine).

Secret Wars came up not too long ago in these very (digital) pages. And their toys are still out there because it only came out... oh... that long?

Apparently Sax and I could wax philosophic on alien symbiotes from 25 Years Ago?!?!?

But one image chilled me to the bone, making me wonder just what kind of world we've left for our children.

Darth Vader?!?

(cries)

I remember how I got my Boba Fett. I had to save those Kenner proofs of purchase, stuff them all into an envelope, then send them off to some corporate punk. Waited what seemed like 6 months, not the advertised 4-6 weeks, then it finally came in the mail. Having to go through so much made me appreciate Fett all the more, in hindsight, but man was I sweatin' it for a long time, checking the mailbox multiple times every day.

I still have the original.

Dusty! Wait a minute: did your Boba Fett come with a working rocket launcher backpack?

Ironically enough I just visited DelinO this weekend and was enamored with his house full of Star Wars action figures, so I came back home and excavated my set of original figs. Including Boba Fett!

Ah, the days when the joints were unarticulated...

@Sax

No, I'm talking about the regular action figure. Although I also had the Boba with working rocket launcher, but that was a separate Fett. I don't have the rocket launcher one any more, alas. Didn't it have some shitty spring action? I remember putting him into a position (that's what he said!) like he was doing a pushup, then being able to fire the rocket horizontally. A shitty offensive weapon, when you think about it. Otherwise, it would just fire straight up into the air.

But theoretically, if Boba Fett were fighting the Rancor or even caught upside-down in the ice cave of a Wampa, one could position the rocket backpack for an effective attack, right?

I'm just saying.

Admittedly, if Boba Fett were attacked by a clan of Ewoks or Ugnaughts or Power Droids, the rocket backpack would be largely useless.

I think I may have said too much on that last comment.

I thought no one had the Boba Fett with the working launcher. I call shenanigans. Where's my broom?

This thread is more interesting than the Dodgers.

An actual thread is more interesting than the Dodgers.

I know I didn't have a spring-loaded rocket launching 'Fett. I also recall an urban legend that it was never produced (I wouldn't call this article a reliable reference, but it's a data point). But I am not one to question the Dustinator...

Dusty, what's the scoop
