Post-Game 40 Thread: If A One-Hitter Falls In The Forest,...

DIAMONDBACKS 1, DODGERS 0

Oh, .500, you torture us Dodger fans so. On an afternoon with a nationally-televised game, you let an outstanding performance by Chad Billingsley (8.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 Ks) go to waste, as the Dodgers offense came up feeble time and time again (0-for-5 with RISP). Billingsley's only negative came after a Stephen Drew double led to a pickoff move to second in which neither Aaron 0-for-4 Miles nor Jamey 1-for-4-but-still-batting-third-best-in-the-lineup Carroll were covering. Drew gets to third on the error and scores on a sacrifice fly by Melvin Mora. You were just beaten by a guy named Melvin.

Not that the Dodgers didn't have their chances. Eighth inning, and a leadoff double by James Loney (his first XBH since April 6, for pete's sake): Rod Barajas sacrifices Loney over to third, but Dioner Navarro Ks and Jay Gibbons (who can't see the ball anyway) flies out to left. Ninth inning, Carroll leads off with a single and, after a Miles K, Andre Ethier earns a walk: and on the first goddamn pitch, Matt Kemp GIDPs.

Kenley Jansen pitched a nice ninth but honestly, who the fuck cares if you can't score during a one-hitter. When Billingsley himself (who doubled but was stranded at second) is batting better than four, and almost five (Miles is borderline), of the starting lineup, there's a problem here.

Great re-cap of the game, Sax. Thx for putting in the time to memorialize this shitfest-o-rama.

I'd cry but I'm all out of tears. I wanted this one today. Now I'm just slamming some Dos now, passing the time.

If Dusty cries, but he's all out of tears, can anyone really tell the difference?

That eighth is going to live in comedy infamy.

-Loney gets his first XBH since the earth cooled.
-The team's HR co-leader bunts him over with the grace of a drugged moose.
-The cast of the classic cult film "Freaks" tries to pick him up and fails miserably.

I don't know how to respond to that game, it is all so confusing. I mean, come on, a fucking one hitter? No earned runs? This should be a great day. I spent the afternoon with Edgar Martinez and I'm pretty sure he could have single handedly scored a couple of runs. And he was drunk! Damn it all to hell.

I must conclude that Matty's back with Rhianna.
