Chad Billingsley (11-6, 3.82) vs. Jair Jurrjens (9-8, 2.85).
COMMENTS: Last night's tumultousness helped to perpetuate the alternating win-loss pattern the Dodgers have been holding for the past seven games. Both starters are eager to prove they can go longer than five innings in tonight's rematch of last Sunday's matchup, Jurrjens without getting shelled and Billingsley without cramping up. And the bats are hopefully eager to prove they don't have to rely on walkoffs.
UPDATE: From ESPN's Beto Duran via SoSG reader Nic j: "Jason Schmidt to DL (shoulder) Tony Abreu up from AAA. Kuroda to start Monday, Elbert on Sunday." Thanks, Nic!

Sweet album cover. Here's to the Dodger offense making more sweet music (preferrably pre-9th inning) tonight.
In totally unrelated news, did you know that Jose Lima was traded a couple of days ago. No Lima Time in LA!
Delwyn with the RBI double
Bucs up 3-2 in the 3d
And they serve 16oz cans of beer at your seat in PNC
At PNC they do one round of take me out followed by a disco spong "best of bmy love"
No more "We Are Family"?
Apparently torre is about an hour late to his pregame media interview. The reporters were told Joe was in a "meeting".
What could that mean? Maybe some waiver players in the mix.
I'm still curious as to what the corresponding move to make room for Abreu was.
Torre may have been busy getting Nickelback tickets.
Schmidt to dl (shoulder), called up Tony abreu, Elbert to start sunday.
@Eric Stephen "Sweet album cover. Here's to the Dodger offense making more sweet music (preferrably pre-9th inning) tonight."
Amen!
Nic, source?
Beto duran, espn reporter.
Thanks, will update main page.
It was a tweet, so it's gotta be true. Haha
@DuranLA: #Dodgers notes: Jason Schmidt to DL (shoulder) Tony Abreu up from AAA. Kuroda to start Monday, Elbert on Sunday.
Just ask Jon Heyman!
Kuroda to start Monday. I don't know why the last half if my previous post was cut off.
Makes sense. Save the veteran for the Giants series.
Good Karma for tonight!
*lights candles and throws salt over shoulder*
Pretty crazy scene over there at PNC huh neebs.
Is it time yet??
Erin #2:
Yes, it's TIME FOR DODGER BASEBALL.
Rafael Furcal, SS
Andre Ethier, RF
Manny Ramirez, LF
Casey Blake, 3B
James Loney, 1B
Matt Kemp, CF
Russell Martin, C
Orlando Hudson, 2B
Chad Billingsley, P
At least we got the pitch count up.
Why King James?
WTF Chad.
I feel like we need to pipe in Nancy Bea crowd-raising music to get some comments going here.
ANOTHER 2 out RBI
It's Friday night, Dusty. However, i'd wish it'd be more crowded over here, because i'm nervous for something that happened this afternoon and i'm alone in my house :(
Time for another come from behind victory!
Loney is a black hole in the 5-spot.
You're never along with SoSG game threads, Karina. :-)
Hey everyone!
Yeah Coltrane!
Got your LUCKY glasses on, Gagne? Hope so.
Move: Busted.
Run up the pitch count, 'Lando!
Tied up!!!
@Dusty: You know it! Martin wouldn't have scored with out them
Ugh. This team needs bunting lessons.
Oh sure, Homer Bailey doesn't hit Bengie Molina on the hand.
Josh, I'm sure that someone from this board could give them those lessons....
Hey, welcome back to the bigs Abreu
Josh, the ironic thing is I always read about how the team gets a ton of bunting lessons from Mota.
Rox and Giants seem to be cruising tonight.
Jur jur binks at 48 pitches already after two. If we don't at least get 4 innings of bullpen we should be ashamed.
Manny Mota, not Guillermo.
I love manny mota....he rocks!
Epale all!
it's awful when they walk the pitcher, error and the pitcher is on 3rd.
Aw, that was just SAD.
In my softball game last night, we were short a player so one of the guys wife volunteered to catch. Because of the rules, she had to bat and her second time up, it was the bases loaded and she hit a bases clearing single (she didn't want to run to turn it into a single)...it was awesome
Prado is clutch...
This is Bad News Bearsish, but at least they got a DP out of it.
2-1 Braves.
Braves get the lead without earning it.
@Josh: it's a lead anyway
Karina, I know. I just don't want them to be proud of it.
I like that, Josh
Loney strikes out very rarely, what's up with him lately?
Loney's taking a lot of strikes. Good, belt-high ones.
Awesome Manny! showing quite the glove there
I need to sit in the LFP one of these days, just to get one of Manny's freebies that he tosses after a catch.
@ Josh:
There are some big, tough fellaz in LFP who will fight to the death over those freebies. Best be ready to rumble.
What does everyone think, are Giambi and Smoltz' careers over or will someone pick them up?
Runners at the corners, no strikes! how about a single, O Dogg?
At least the game is tied
Smoltz: Done
He was a great pitcher in his day that needs to walk into the sunset of his career.
Giambi:
Some idiot team will pick him up thinking it is a steal. They will be wrong. Please don't let it be Dodgers.
@Dusty thanks for the kind words :)
@Dusty - I agree on Smoltz, for his own legacy he needs to hang it up like Glavine and Maddux did. I think for Giambi a lot of teams are scared off about the whole roid issue (ie all the injuries you suffer after years of abuse) that probably 28-29 teams will pass but one might take a chance on him for atleast the rest of the season.
Bobby = kicked out! lol
We were lucky there, runners at first and second, Manny up.
The Beardness! 3 RBI HR!
Manny doesn't have the benefit of an elite hitters strike zone anymore.
Big Beard HR!
Dodgers take the lead 5-3!
Jurrgens gone, cue the tapatio song!!!
A beautiful HR off the first pitch!
Now the real question is can bills hold the lead in the 6th.
BLAKE!!!!
re: Giambi
Even beyond the 'roid issue, the main issue is that he has for the most part stank it up this year. He doesn't have the physique or the bat speed any more...done.
Could he step in and pinch and have some degree of success? Probably. Is it worth a spot and some $$$? Probably not. Just my take.
And the aforementioned porn moustache is just plain weird.
Maybe loney needs to update his contact prescription.
B. Cox has been ejected 148 times as a manager in his career. That's, like, almost an entire season.
Can I be Julian Barberie's house husband?
I don't want to seem rude, but: who's Julian Barberie? what's a house husband?
Bills cruising, ladies and gents!
Wow, Boston and NY tied to zero on the 13rd, maybe that game will be historical.
Sorry Katrina...Julian Barberie is on Good Morning LA on Fox 11 but I responding to a commercial for some new reality show she is on called "House Husbands of LA"...I have not idea what it is but I know I want to volunteer
Julian Barberie does the "news" in the morning, though some would say she is hired to be more eye candy than she is for her strong background delivering hard-hitting news and information.
Bills is out of the game and again, he doesn't seem too happy about it. Kuo will take the pitching duties.
What just happened to Bills?
I guess he got the hook because they want to prevent cramping or a more serious injury. He was at 78 pitches.
Kuo might be a little overused.
Johnson 2 RBI HR, Dodgers 5-Braves 4
By the way, JD DREW made the most incredible catch with runners at first and second and one out, that was the Ethier off double.
edit: i didn't mean to capitalize Drew
Flat Breezy is on.
giambi released from a's and billingsley goes 6 full?!?! is hell freezing over.
brim reaper finished off the ify 7th. pinch me i might not being dreaming afterall
Ehh, I don't know how confident I am that the pen is going to hold onto this win for bills.
Come on kemp here is your pitch
Oooohhhhh.....fuuuuuudge...
A Roid walkoff HR in bottom 15th.
I missed the Beard Blast while getting dinner, but in a weird SoSG connection, there was a small picture of Jackie Johnson in the restaurant and the woman behind the counter randomly brought up "A Thousand Splendid Suns".
100
This is not the lead I was hoping for, though it is a lead.
Old school game thread...no points.
Angel Berroa was DFA'd.
@ Josh S:
*texts Dodger security*
To answer a question I was not here for, Jillian Barberie also does the weather for FOX NFL Sunday. Which basically consists of reading a teleprompter and pointing.
This is not looking good.
Hope Sherrill's better here than when he was on my fantasy team.
Nice now let's score a few runs!
That was close.
It's up to the big fella.
One down.
Stupidity at it's finest right there. I'll blame that moron if Broxton loses the lead.
Another drinking game idea: Vin bringing up the imperfect Dodger Stadium radar gun while Broxton is pitching.
How does he know the crowd is partisan. I know a Braves fan out here.
What about Vin explaining why they don't show the on-field disruption every time it happens?
Is that water or vodka you are swilling, Torre?
Come on blue! Don't squeeze brox!
They don't show it because that's exactly what the idiots want: face-time.
Crapola.
How about drink everytime the Mets give up late inning grand slams? (Nice little steal there, McCloud)
Can Russ even throw anyone out anymore?
That guy should consider himself lucky. If they did show his face, he could be facing hatred from LA on Bartman proportions.
Think I heard one guy at Dodgers Stadium yell out BALK!
Two away!
Yeah, I got that re on-field disruptions. My point was Vin explaining it every single time it happens gets old and repetitive.
Sit down until you know how to play in a man's game, Prado.
I think it's a message that bear's repeating. Plus, how can you tire of Vin Scully talking about anything?
FUCKING FAN
Josh, you just changed your avatar. This is all on your shoulders now.
YAR!!!
I knew bills wasn't gonna get the win tonight.
Dammit Broxton, that was bad
poops
Brox wants the win I guess.
I could feel this coming.
Brox wants to challenge our staff ace (whoever that is) for most wins this season.
Heap of french fries.
And manny isn't even in the game anymore.
I don't belive in the avatar jinx. If it were true, Neeebs would have sunk this season.
Plus I was tired of looking at my own mug.
Hey... what did the fan do? Streaking? Dropping a number 2 on 2nd Base?
Heap of something, indeed.
Scotch in order now.
I don't know. I didn't see it.
At least Ethier will get a shot to be a back2back hero.
I changed my avatar mid-game last month, and we still won. I took credit for the win, by the way.
I've actually only seen Broxton pitch twice, both times in a tie game, and both times he got the win after a walk-off victory.
Let's try for more walkoff wins than Nats have total wins.
Tony Abreu walk off.
Damn Raffy and his need to bunt.
"Will it be Deja Vu all over again?"
- Charley Steiner.
Is Gonzalez casting a spell?
Ethier gets the walk. Loretta will PH.
That was a craptacular AB
Why Loretta in that situation? Why?
Because there's no one else Torre would trust in that situation.
Well at least the reds just had a five run rally in the ninth to break a tie.
Eff you giants.
Tenth inning begins.
Will the Braves steal back the game they lost last night?
Nice job by J-Mac to get LaRoche.
Wow. J-Mac does not want to be demoted.
WHA HAPPUN
Stupidity. That's what happened.
If Broxton keeps this up, the post-season is going to be rather tense.
On the bright side, McD is dealin'.
McDizzle auditioning for his old starter job?
Hmmm, time to groom McDonald as a starter?
Padres walk-off grand slam tonight.
SAFE!
Martin juuuust beat the throw.
Time to take advantage!
Nice bunt. Martin should take some notes.
JP with the walkoff two-run HR right here.
Josh-
Alleged avatar jinx aside, that is a very cool one.
The bunt works. Now batting: the guy who bunts followed by the other guy who bunts.
Two on, one out. Please no DP. Please no DP.
This is your brain. This is your brain thinking it's a good idea to walk Pierre to get to Furcal.
Walk off running slap bunt please!
Time for Mr. Walkoff to shine. Or unless he walks, then it's up to Abreu or Castro.
They're gonna walk Dre, aren't they?
Walking Ethier, probably?
It's up to Abreu.
Much respect to Andre.
This can't go down like this again, can it?
Hope Abreu doesn't break an ankle going from on-deck circle to batter's box.
Will it be a welcome-to-the-bigs moment?
Crapola.
shitzy
It's a welcome to the bigs moment, alright. Just not the good kind.
Yes, it will, Orel. But not in the good kind of way.
Echo echo echo echo....
I hope tomorrow's starter lasts into the eighth. Wait, it's Kershaw. Crap, the bullpen's gonna be fried.
Any announcement on Chad's hammy?
Not the same injury as last time?
"By David Ely / MLB.com
08/08/09 12:26 AM ET
LOS ANGLES -- For a second consecutive start against the Braves, Dodgers right-hander Chad Billingsley was forced to exit the game because of a problem with one of his hamstrings.
On Sunday in Atlanta, Billingsley left after five innings with a right hamstring cramp. On Friday at Dodger Stadium, Billingsley suffered a mild left hamstring strain when he ran out of the batter's box after singling in the bottom of the sixth.
Billingsley had thrown just 78 pitches before exiting the game. He gave up two runs (one earned) on four hits, walking three and striking out three in six innings."
I really hate Garret Anderson.
Thanks, DB. Who knew the Dodgers' official website would have the info I was looking for?
Not looking good.
Elbert is up in the pen. That could mess up the rotation.
Elbert in. And Schmidt is on the DL. Who starts Sunday?
We've screwed up the rotation, and all because some dickweed decided to run onto the field. He really deserves Bartman treatment.
I'm on 4 days rest. If they'll comp me a ticket Sunday I can be ready for the spot start.
They're going to have to call up Stults now.
Let's hope Elbert gets LaRoche, and all this talk about who goes Sunday will be silenced once the Dodgers win it in the 12th.
I hear you, MLASF. On the other hand I hope John Mower isn't that fragile, as facing an AL East opponent (pick one) in the 7th game of the WS is far more than intimidating than some dickweed running onto the home field for a few seconds.
Don't get me wrong, I hope they put a Giants jersey on him and release him in MacArthur Park.
