Game 34 Thread: May 6 @ Nationals, 4p

Against Kershaw, do we expect to see the Nationals' Blake lively?

Clayton Kershaw (1-0, 1.35) vs. Blake Treinen (0-0, 1.35).

All the talk today will be about the return of Clayton Kershaw to the Dodgers, who have struggled with a triple-A revolving door of talent while waiting for the ace's return of a six-week DL stint. Some savages would have you believe that the Dodgers' season is already lost. But I refuse to have accepted the Dodgers' mediocre 18-15 record as a portent of things to come (after all, last season's 42-8 tear came only after a 30-42 start, midway through June), and instead think that Kershaw's return, coupled with some timely slump-busting sports from [whomever in our outfield is healthy enough to play tonight], will be the talk of the town.

The Nationals call up Blake Treinan to the majors for his first career start today. He's given up two runs in 11.2 IP in Syracuse. Anecdotally, the Dodgers tend to struggle with pitchers we have not seen prior. So in a clutch situation with a hitter's count, coming off yesterday's shutout loss, it will be interesting to see if Mattingly gives the green lantern to swing for the fences. (My word, that was a painful setup.)

Today's TMZ gossip: girl friend and baby mama of Carl Crawford baby mama is demanding $15k-per-month in child support.

Orel said...

From a guy with a $142 million contract.

Jason said...

Same guy that is getting paid $15k-per-hit.

Orel said...

ONE HIT PER MONTH IS ALL I ASK

Steve Sax said...

But he doesn't play every day! If he did, it would easily be $14k/hit.

Jason said...

I just did the math, if Crawford's salary really was 15k per hit, he would need 1,400 hits to earn his annual salary.

Also, when did Baseball Reference the ability to adjust salary figures for inflation? Apparently Crawford is earning a mere $1,068,551 (in 1871 dollars).

Let's get this party started. I'm in Laramie, WY, so there's NOTHING else to do but sit here and cry if we give up runs.

Somebody talked to Orel about the "us, we" stuff. He's still doing it, but he's awkwardly correcting himself when he does.

Fred's Brim said...

CC caught stealing but takes out Espinosa's legs

BJ Killeen said...

What's wrong with Orel saying us and we? He's a Dodger. He is we and us.

Epic finish in the Gnats v Pie-rats game. Walkoff triple+throwing error send runner home where he was called out. BUT play overturned on a challenge.
