Game 70 Thread: June 19 @ Yankees, 4p (Game 2)

Chris Capuano (1-4, 5.45) vs. Phil Hughes (3-5, 4.89).

What are the chances that we actually earn a split by sacking up and playing an errorless game, for starters (I'd even take fewer than four)? Pretty unlikely, especially having to call upon Capuano for his first start since May 30. (Information on the Yankees' starter here is still valid.)

This Dodgers team is so rusty, it was no surprise to be Kuroda'd in the opener. Let's hope we're not Hughes-ed and abused in Game 2.

So...much...discontent today.

Dusty Baker said...

I hereby formally apologize for referring to some of the tripe we post in this space as "content." It was a crude mischaracterization of the term, and I am sorry for defaming it.

Ebbets Field is gone. Old Yankee Stadium is gone & I haven't been to the new one. New York is basically a city of memories for me #VinScully

It seems Mr. F is a bit of a completist.

Dusty Baker said...

@Orel

So you don't want me to copy/transcribe the Tweets?

MR.F said...

@Orel,
My OCD is bothering me. If you never mentioned it, I wouldn't have noticed. Now that you've mentioned it, iono.

Steve Sax said...

@Mr F: Let me tell you, that Game 58 PGT is going to rock your world. Better buckle up now just to be safe.

Hideo Nomo said...

Backdate it so Mr. F has to go looking for it.

RF Bleachers just shouted out a roll call for "Donnie Baseball" and he tipped his cap from Dodgers dugout, per David Vassegh.

Orel said...

@Dusty: Don't let me stop you. Anything out of Vin's mouth can't get enough exposure.

Hideo Nomo said...

They did that in Game 1 too.

Dusty Baker said...

You keep talking that trash, Mr F, we're going to do another Smonk contest and eat up 8 months of your life on earth.

James Gandolfini has died.

Not to dance on the grave, but I will revel in all the people getting so upset and what a guy he was...while knowing what a genuine shitbag he was to everyone around him, except his heroin supplier.

Orel said...

Now I feel bad for his heroin supplier.

Hideo Nomo said...

Don't worry. He's going to come back from the dead as Gandolfini the White.

Let's recap the start of the first inning, for posterity's sake:

Schumaker single
Puig single
Gonzalez single, RBI
Ramirez single, RBI
Ethier...FLY OUT
Hairston Jr single
Federowicz GIDP

Andre. Le sigh.

Wait a second, Ethier doubled in a run in the third?

Guess he reads the blog.

Steve Sax said...

Cruz, 0-for-2 so far

Steve Sax said...

fun fact of the day: Luis Cruz has had one multi-hit game this year, back on April 10. His average shot up to .115 as a result.

MR.F said...

And apparently a good defensive play by Ethier.

Dusty Baker said...

HanRam is sick!!! 6 hits in a flippin row.

MR.F said...

Hanley-Puig!

spank said...

Hey James Gandolfini died.

Steve Sax said...

5-0! Hairston sac fly, scoring Hanley from third.

Glad that Ichiro lost that ball for a second, so that Hanley didn't have to test the hammy on the run home.

Fifth inning, two out. Wait, it's Fedex...three out.

5-0 LA, mid-5

They're dissecting Puig's swing, and how effortless it is. Wow.

There's a ton of Dodger fans there, it's like the roles have reversed.

Hideo Nomo said...

Not to belabor the "Eric Collins sucks" point, but he said, "It's got a chance!" when Puig's HR ball was already three rows deep.

Game 1 was the most frustrating Dodger game I have seen in person. Game 2 may have been the best. I can't remember a game where they pitched, fielded and hit so well and all in the same game. The first game can eat a dick
