Cue Michael McDonald and the Brothers Doob'! The Dodgers had a 1-1 tie going into the ninth inning, with the Dodgers' only run coming from a Juan Uribe two-out RBI double, which was promptly negated by a Carlos Fuckhead Quentin solo HR in the same seventh frame.
But Bud Black went with Padres closer Huston Street in the ninth, and Street delivered...for the Dodgers. Right after Adrian Gonzalez hit what Vin Scully called a "no-doubt about it" shot to right field for a 2-1 lead, Hanley Ramirez took the first pitch of his AB to right field to make it 3-1. Scully said that Street has given up seven HRs in late and close situations; and that this was Street's ninth HR that he has allowed from the seventh onward (which would probably be all of Street's appearances, though I didn't check).
Kenley Jansen came in to secure the ninth, due in part to a sliding Andre Ethier catch in shallow center for the first out. Starter Chris Capuano, about whom I was worried, went an admirable 5.0 IP with 4 H and 0 ER, 0 BB and 5 Ks.
Peter Moylan gave up the aforementioned Quentin shot. And Brandon League, who got Logan Forsythe to ground out for the last out of the eighth inning...got the win. Lucky bastard.
So what does this mean for the Dodgers? Can a series split with the Padres actually turn into some...dare we say...momentum? Are the Dodgers really in place to pick up a three-game winning streak, matching their longest streak of the year (April 5-7)? Didn't the Giants and Diamondbacks lose today, and the Rockies almost choke a 7-0 lead to the Nationals? Are those footsteps the rest of the NL West might be hearing? Is Juan Uribe walking on a wood floor?
Monday we go against the hated Giants at home. Let's just take this one minute by minute and see.
(Yes, I know I've used this pun before, back in 2009. You don't think, in our seventh year of Dodgers blogging, that everything is original, right? What a fool believes....)

I've been out of it all day. Did we really hit home runs on consecutive PITCHES?!
Holeeeee crap.
What does Bathtub Michael McDonald have to say about the win?
I can't unsee that, Nomo. My eyes! They burrrrrrrrn
Per Bill Shaikin, "Matt Kemp strikes out on 3 P in first AB tonight. That's 5 K in 6 AB on rehab."
@Nomo
And get this: we actually - how do the kids refer to it these days - won a game after having one a game the night before.
Comin' back in town for the opener tomorrow! Seek the streak, baby!™
Like the sound of that, Hollandsworth!
I'm getting the shirts made as we speak.
Those shirts will work during a streak, and after as well. If there is no streak, we would be seeking one, see.
If it happens, the Killeens and SOSG will have photos to prove it happened...
Seek the Streak with a picture of Spanky running?
@Gnomes - that clip is awesome
@Saxy - you are the king of footnotes
Ya know Street had a little $hit eat'n grin going after striking out Puig in the 9th and then a platter of "eat my Dodger dog" was served up by Agon and Ramirez! See ya SD, even-steven this time around...
I tried to sing Michael McDonald to my son. It freaked him out. But might be a good discipline tool when I'm at my wits end.
@Paul: did the Michael McDonald singing attract a flock of pigeons?
No, but it did make my sister believe I was having a stroke.
Mississippi Moon wont you keep on shining on me.
Dooooooooobies!
No bogarting. Pass that mofo,Saxy!
I would love to see Paul's face as he's doing his Mike McDonald voice. It's all in the delivery, holmes.
