PCS 5.7: Quote Me On This, Bishes!

  1. Politics cannot be a science, because in politics theory and practice cannot be separated, and the sciences depend upon their separation.
  2. The fault I find with most American newspapers is not the absence of dissent. it is the absence of news. With a dozen or so honorable exceptions, most American newspapers carry very little news. Their main concern is advertising.
  3. It is the stupidest children who are the most childish and the stupidest grown-ups who are the most grown-up.
  4. Bachelors know all about parties. In fact, a good bachelor is a living, breathing party all by himself. At least that is what my girlfriend said when she found the gin bottles under the couch. I believe her exact words were, "You're a disgusting, drunken mess." And that's a good description of a party, if it's done right.
  5. City of Compton, City of Compton. Damn, that shit was dope!
  6. We shouldn't teach great books; we should teach a love of reading. Knowing the contents of a few works of literature is a trivial achievement. Being inclined to go on reading is a great achievement.
  7. All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.
  8. No doubt Jack the Ripper excused himself on the grounds that it was human nature.

Puzzle Rules: The solution to the puzzle is a former Dodger. Comment freely in the thread, but if you have the solution, please don't give it away to everyone in the comments section. Instead, do the following:

Send us an Email with "PCS" somewhere in the subject line, containing the first and last name of the players, along with your reasoning. Submitted answers without the reasoning, or those submitted with the incorrect reasoning, will count for participation only, even if the answer itself is correct. And please include your screen name somewhere in the email; and

Post a comment simply saying you have emailed your solution attempt. We may not be able to reply to your original email promptly, so please be patient and check back on the comment thread for the latest news; we may confirm correct answers there.

You have until midnight PT tonight to submit your answer. The answer will be posted tomorrow morning. Good luck!

I think this is the only time that I have solved a puzzle before Ubragg. He must be without internet or something.

You got me fair and square Quad. I'm just not seeing this one.

I kinda like the idea of letting the sons play spoilers.

I bet I'm really going to kick myself for this one. Any more hints coming, Stubbs?

Franklin Stubbs said...

I don't know how much more I can give without giving it away. Let me see if I can craft one more...

Hint #4: One might be tempted to criticize writers for being over-initialized, but you have to admit that Howie Lovecraft, Hank Mencken or Dave Lawrence all lack a certain gravitas.
