Heading Into Enemy Territory

The Dodgers need some help here. So this Son is going to a road game to support them--heading right into the lion's den of enemy territory on Sunday afternoon. This would make the Sons' second away game this year (Nomo saw the Dodgers lose in Anaheim in June).

I'm definitely wearing a Dodgers cap and t-shirt. I'm not afraid of Giants fans throwing their biscotti at me, or attacking me with their outstretched pinky while they try not to spill their chardonnay. But the question I have for you readers is, what other equipment should I be packing?

Anyone else who can speak from experience, wearing Dodgers garb at Big Phoney Park, please let me know.

This should be fun!

A loin cloth may work well.

Let's hope you get to see the completion of a Dodgers sweep!

And be careful, Saxy

I'd imagine leather ass-less chaps would do well up there...

Have fun, Saxy!

Are you going tonight, Sax?

Here are my experiences going to Big Phoney Park:

-Night games are cold, so people may not see your awesome Dodgers t-shirt. I would bring a jacket. Hell, I bring and wear them to day games.

-There are plenty of Dodger fans in attendance, based on hats, jackets, etc.

-There's always boos and jabbering, but it's not bad except in the bleachers.

-I have been verbally abused in the bleachers.

-The wine and cheese hippies take a great deal of pride in their "Beat LA" chants. They really would rather see us lose than watch the gnats win. Be prepared to see retards wearing "Beat LA" shirts.

-People rave about the garlic fries, but I think they're too garlicy and get soggy easily.

-I can't comment on most other foods because I usually stick to hot dogs/traditional ball park food. The hot dogs work; I have no overwhelmingly good or bad opinion on them.

-You will think that it is Oct. 31.

Oh, and sea gulls like to fly into the stadium around the 8th inning. I've never been shatted on though.

I've always wondered...isn't the idea of "ass-less chaps" somewhat redundant? It's funny that this is how we differentiate between "Cowboy" and "Midnight Cowboy" usage.

@Mr F, you gotta come to Sunday's game so we can grab a beer

Tickets are so pricy! I'm trying to find tickets and someone to go with =/.

I've been pushed by pussy gnats fans from behind on the concourses, no one would ever fess up much less actually deal with me.

Be prepared to deal with the most baseball-ignorant "fans" in the game.

Wear steel-toe shoes/boots, if you've got 'em. Always useful in a throw-down (years of mosh pits speaking).

The "Beat LA" chants are an annoyance at worst. They don't even realize they have Celtics fans to thank for that.

And their garlic fries suck balls.

Seriously, don't worry about physical altercations, relax, and have fun watching our team beat the piss out of them. Most of the "fans" there can't tell the difference between a fastball and a curveball, and just want to enjoy the game, too.

Enjoy the game?! More like they're drinking wine and eating cheese while sliding down their giant coke slide!

"Giant coke slide" was my nickname in high school.

I was actually threatened with a baseball bat by a toothless drunk Giants fan at a game there once, for wearing my Dodgers cap. The Giants were playing the Cubs that day, which for some reason made my Dodgers cap even more insulting.

Another time I went to the third game of a three game series in which the Dodgers had one the first two, and I brought a blue broom. I didn't make any new friends that day either, but I survived.

If the situation arises for you on Sunday, Sax, you are welcome to borrow my broom to take with you. Wish I could make it Sunday myself, but the baseball team I play for has a game at the same time.

Ha ha, Mr F. I pick my spots to comment here and there. I found this blog first and foremost as a Dodger fan, it just so happens that I also love puzzles.

I'd wear a Dodger cap and a Bryan Stow t-shirt just for funsies.

Stubbs,

Just googled Midnight Cowboy - Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight in an X rated film that won the Oscar for Best Picture?

Throw Brokeback Mountain?

Ok, the worst thing about a game in SF is this: 8th inning, they play Journey. Now if it was DSB I would have been ok, but no, they play lights. Nothing worse than a whole crowd of people, annoying, irritating people, sings; "ooo i want to be there in my city, ohoh ohohohoh ohoh mmmmhmhm ohoh ohohoh ohoh"

That's not baseball, fuck you sf.

BTW, ill be there sunday in the bleachers.

MR.F said...

I'll try to be there on Sunday as well. I'll update y'all tomorrow.

Love this post. Fight the power, Sax!

These are some of the best comments all season.

ubragg: comments on a post not relating to a puzzle. Cool!

If I weren't just now flying back from a week out of town, I'd be all up in dat SF shizz with Saxy and Mr. F.

I've never actually been inside the Phone Booth, but I did take a pic of me mooning it while going to the Treasure Island Music Fest once. All of my experiences were in Candlestick and that place was a lot rowdier--despite never being anywhere near full.

Like Pistol Pete I got pushed from behind, too! I guess that's a thing with them, they're used to getting it from behind? Also had a souvenir helmet thrown at me once. My cousin got into a fight up there, and while I'll admit that my cousin is an idiot, he didn't start it. He punched some drunk asshole, but the guy definitely had it coming. And, of course, he was the only one who got into any trouble.

Mr. F nailed it, they'd rather watch the Dodgers lose than see the Giants win.

Looks like plenty of Dodgers fans there tonight.
