Post-Game 63 Thread: Phils Work Hard For Series Victory

PHILLIES 2, DODGERS 0

The Dodgers let Cole Hamels have his way with them, allowing Hamels to coast through eight innings while obliging with nine Ks (and achieving only six hits). The Dodgers were punchless through six, and then got men at the corners with none out in the seventh to no avail (Urine infield fly, Thames K, Barajas infield fly), as well as a chance in the eighth (men at the corners with two out, but Ethier grounded to first). Matt Kemp wouldn't take this lying down, coming out with a single to lead off the seventh, only to have Urine GIDP and PH Navarro end the game.

The Phillies, on the other hand, jerked around just enough to get a Ryan Howard solo HR off of Hiroki Kuroda (5.1 IP, 1 ER, 7 Ks), and another guy who scored in the next inning after hitting a one out triple (I forget that guy's name). Two runs ain't a lot, but it beats nil any day of the week.

The Dodgers lose their first series in the last four, which is pretty astounding. We are off to third-place Colorado for four games. Here we go.

He's just checking for his bus pass.

Well all games were close. Pitching looks good. Just need to pull a Manny trade again. No biggie.

No cranky post from Orel=No win.

Maybe we can trade for Manny Parra and Hanley Ramirez and smoosh them together.

I'd settle for Hanley.

One more decent bat, and this team starts climbing.

*head gets woozy from making optimistic comment*

Seriously, Kemp and Ethier cannot carry this load alone. Either Loney steps up or goes. The Beard needs to be consistent like he sort of was back in 08 and 09. Fourkal? May be a lost cause.
Pressing Sands, The Jesus, and Flash, Jr. certainly isn't going to help. This can be a playoff caliber team with one move.

^ Ned just read that and is now preparing a Rubby De La Rosa, Zack Lee and Jerry Sands for Jason Bay and D.J. Carrasco trade. The Mets might even throw in Francisco Rodriguez (though, that may force McCourt to miss payroll so it might not be all bad).

So, I just went through the NL leaders in WAR factoring in only hitting and fielding (not pitching) for the season to date. Here is how the top 5 Dodgers rank overall in the NL

1. Kemp
23. Ethier
47. Carroll
84 Billingsley!
102. Uribe

...

554. Loney (only Aubrey Huff is worse)

I think the biggest surprise is that Loney contributes less with the glove (-0.7 dWAR) than the bat (-0.6 oWAR). This thoroughly confuses and infuriates me.
