The 200,000th Comment Contest

Long-time readers know that we're very proud of the incredible community we have built here at SoSG. In the beginning, we Sons tried to provide some of the infrastructure, but the real meat and flesh of the blog has really been cultivated and sharpened by you, the hordes of readers who populate our blog with such wit and wisdom, sarcasm and snark, emotion and debate. And as we close in on an (internal) milestone, we'd like to share the joy with one of you.

As of 9.35p PT yesterday, Sons of Steve Garvey had a cumulative 193,880 comments, across the 7,800+ posts we've written on this blog. We're going to celebrate the advent of our 200,000th comment by offering a contest.

Rules are simple: The person who writes the 200,000th comment will win a prize. Any comment in any thread contributes to the count. However, you're flying blind here on the actual number, in real-time--only we Sons can see the comment count, so I will update the sidebar comment counter at intermittent times.

We want to encourage commenting, but we also don't want it to turn into comment spam fest. So, people who just start commenting for comments' sake will be disqualified. Also, Sons are not eligible for the prize, so if a Son hits the 200Kth comment, then we'll pass it to the next commenter. Final award decision to be left to the Sons of Steve Garvey.

So, go to it, guys. Comment away, and thank you again for reading Sons of Steve Garvey!

You're welcome!

Did I win yet?

Sorry, that comment is not a winner! Please try again later.

I've been commenting for comment's sake a long time now. Am I DOA?

"people who just start commenting for comments' sake will be disqualified"

I'm out before I ever had a chance!

I've been watching this milestone's arrival and wondering if it was going to be marked. We need a pie chart to show content of the various comments over the years. It would probably be something like:

(cries) - 48%
DAMMIT! - 23%
Wash yer hair, Timmeh - 19%
Rancho ardiendo - 6%
Fuck me in the armpit - 4%
We make party! - <1%

ps re: Marla's comment of 6:57am:

DAMMIT!

(commenting for comments sake)

@Dusty, how are you watching the milestone's arrival?

The counter near the top is about pageviews btw

I swear, I will knofe someone in the robs if I end up as either comment 199,999 or 200,001.

I will, however, dry hump anyone that wants some if I am 200,000.

Is the prize James Loney? It's not like he's doing anything right now, I'm sure he has time to spare.

Josh S. said...

I'm sure if the prize was Loney, most of us would stop commenting.

Greg Zakwin said...

I'd usually be in that boat with all of you. However, while I would ship him off in a heartbeat, I would like to get my Loney bobblehead signed by him.

So yeah, I'm just sayin'.

Hook a brother up.

@DB: You need to add a slice of "I'll take it."

Sounds like a ploy to boost up viewership and advertisement revenue.
You sly devils,you.

@Sax

Oh, I was just thinking that visible counter was what you were talking about since the numbers are similar. And it was early and I was surly and therefore NLT in maximum reading comprehension mode.

Steve Sax said...

@Dusty: when we hit 2M on that, we may exhume SoSG Pedro Guerrero's body. And send it to the winner.

Kyle Baker said...

@Sax

Send Pedro's body to Lasorda as a gag.

Steve Sax said...

@Dusty: I would, but after SoSG spent time in the slammer for necrophiliac behavior, I don't want to tempt him any further.
