Love Is In The Air, And Buster Olney's Smelling Roses

Ah, the optimism of spring and spring training. And Buster Olney has valentines for each team, including those in the NL West (link insider only):

The Dodgers rebuilt their rotation -- this time last year it was a huge question mark -- and they think that the hiring of Don Mattingly as manager will help Matt Kemp. The Padres have invested hope and expectations in the prospects they got in the Adrian Gonzalez trade. The Rockies think Jhoulys Chacin is the real deal, and that Ubaldo Jimenez will continue to evolve. The Diamondbacks believe J.J. Putz could be the key to turn around their historically bad bullpen.

And what team knows more about green fields and hope than the Giants? They opened spring training last year thinking Aubrey Huff could be an answer for them -- and he was. They thought Buster Posey had a chance to be an impact player -- and he was. They thought Madison Bumgarner could gain velocity as the season progressed -- and he did, as the Rangers saw first-hand in the World Series. Now the Giants believe that Pablo Sandoval can find his way back, and that Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain and the others in their rotation will continue to thrive.

Help us Matt and Don, you're our only hopes.

Wow, Matt Kemp as young Luke Skywalker and Don Mattingly as Obi Wan Kenobe?

Weeze beeze in trouble folks.

It couldn't be as bad as last year.

Sadly, because the bar of expectations is much, much lower...

I've tipped a few at the Bar of Expectations before. A very scary place, indeed.

I understand you have an open tab there, Neeebs. I'll pick it up if I'm in there before you.

@Dusty: I would expect as much from you.

@Sax

I continue to strive to live up to your middling expectations of me.
