Dodgers Sign Cormier; Swiping "Cash For Clunker" Idea?

The spree of washed-up pitchers continues! From MLB Trade Rumors:

The Dodgers signed Lance Cormier to a minor league deal, the team announced (on Twitter).

The 30-year-old right-hander logged 62 innings for the Rays last year in his second campaign in Tampa Bay. He posted a 3.92 ERA despite walking more batters (34) than he struck out (30). Cormier's FIP (5.22) and xFIP (5.21) suggest he was lucky last year. However, he posted a strong 49.8 % ground ball rate in 2010, just below his career mark or 51.1%.

kind of off topic, but anyone have any thoughts on pujols and the cards not being able to agree on a deal?

Not off-topic at all, I was waiting for the deadline to pass...

I think we should trade Loney for Pujols, straight up.

Maybe throw in Jay Gibbons to sweeten the deal?

I would trade Loney, Navaro and throw in bills to sweeten the deal. He has pressure issues.

How about off topic: catcher topic; Who else believes A j can over take navaro back up roll. He was on fire at end of year.

Kill Loney/Pujols trade, he wants 10 year deal.
Forgot about it.

Would we have to throw in Loney Fan's avatar to make the trade happen?

You mean by lifting his average from the .177 AJ Ellis was at on August 14, all the way to a .278?

Yay.

I would personally pay Pujols $650 a season out of my own pocket to take over 1st base. $3/day per diem.

For ten seasons.

I pull my offer on Opening Day. I don't want this to be a distraction.

well, I would pay King James to stay in first base, if necessary...

Yeah hitting .462 in that span, I did say he was on a tear.

Fernie V said...

That .278 was higher than your Loney's 2010 average and only 3 shy of Loney previous year batting average.

Hey now, let's not make this a Ellis-vs-Loney thing.

I don't know if Ellis has what it takes. I certainly don't have a lot of confidence in Navarro either, however. If Ellis can hit .462 this season, I am confident he'll play every day.

As for Loney...sigh. I'm still hopeful. But it's getting harder and harder to hope.

I am not making him the starter but I think or hope he can be a good sub.
