Granderson To Yanks, Edwin Jackson To D'Backs, Scherzer To Tigers (MLBTR)
Would have loved to have seen E-Jax back in Dodger Blue, but until proven otherwise, I'm assuming the Dodgers don't have the money or trade chips to make significant deals.

It's sad just how much talent the Dodgers have flushed away in the name of cost control.
Is it preferable to knowingly not spend money on good players (e.g., those draft picks we would have gotten for Randy Wolf), or to undervalue them (e.g., Carlos Santana)?

We're in for a loooooong season in 2010.
I can't remember expectations for a forthcoming season being so low so early. Oh well, there's nowhere to go but up!
If you go back a few posts (before Round 2 of FvD started,) I commented with an active roster put together from who the Dodgers already have. Honestly, it's not a bad little team. If the Dodgers really are cash-strapped, they could do way worse than what they've got. My only worry was not having enough backups in case of injuries.
yeah I think we'd be fine with that team, and would have a decent chance to win the west provided another NL West team doesnt go crazy and sign Holliday and trade for Halladay. It wont be a stinky team, but probably a frustrating one (like one we've seen a lot over the last few season, 2009 excepted)
We probably won't seem like a world-series quality team the rate we are going (at least compared to the 2009 Dodgers and our 2010 competition). It will feel like we have wasted a season with this great core.

Wolf made $8 million last season ($5 million + $3 in incentives). What would he have made in arbitration, $10 million (wild guess)? It's pretty clear the Dodgers are saying they can't afford that.

could they backload a contract for Randy, giving him the same or less this year and then a lot more in the coming years with the assumption (hope?) that future ownership will be more settled and could afford it? or dump him on some other team like the Braves are trying with Lowe?
As far as Wolf goes, I'm not too worried, except for the signal that not offering arbitration sends out. I love the man, but he's not really a long-term option.
Still, EJ would be a nice pickup. I said as much back in September only to see him flame out down the stretch. Actually, when I was in SF for the game, I watched him get torched by the A's in Detroit. The lone bright spot for the A's that weekend as I recall.

Doubt it. With Colletti locked in for the next five years, and an uncertain ownership situation, I don't see him gambling with the future.
As far as the Wolf situation is concerned, I am just dumbfounded the Dodgers thought that he would take a one-year deal. The guy is going to look for a big contract; it's his last chance before teams start going with him on a year-by-year basis. There was absolutely no chance he would have accepted.
I'm not all that sure that Edwin is that much of an up-trade from Scherzer today, never mind that he's two years from even his first arbitration deal. Why would AZ trade him?
I'm fine with this deal. The Snakes get older and more expensive, but not really that much better. Good for them.
Maybe the D-Backs just had enough of Scherzer's eyes.
Tigers win the deal.
Scherzer is better, cheaper than Edwin Jackson, and Austin Jackson is cheaper, younger, and can almost certainly hit lefties better than Granderson, who's about 2 steps from being a platoon player.
