The Slappy McPopup Era Comes To A Close in LA

Juan Pierre's days as a Dodger are no more, as he has been traded to the Chicago White Sox for cash and two minor leaguers. Oh, and the Dodgers are footing the bill for the majority of his salary, go-forward:

The Chicago White Sox acquired outfielder Juan Pierre from the Los Angeles Dodgers for two minor leaguers and cash.

Of the $18.5 million left on Pierre's contract, the White Sox will pay $3 million in 2010 and $5 million in 2011, sources said.

The Dodgers will select two pitching prospects from a list furnished by the White Sox, a source told ESPN.com's Jayson Stark. The names on the list are all pitchers who could reach the big leagues by 2010, the source said.

Beast Mode goes East Mode. Thanks for the memories, Juan!

UPDATE: From MLBTR:

Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports hears that John Ely and Jon Link are heading to the Dodgers.

I was just listening to MLB Home Plate Live and heard this.

That's the best we could do? Addition by subtraction? Just wait until 2012!! On the other hand, the Mariners are looking sweet for 2010.

Jason Repko must be thrilled!

'bout time...

By this subtraction, game threads just got slightly duller, we all have to work on our wits this winter.

I feel like we should tell hardcore White Sox fans about the Beast Mode, so tradition also goes to the next team.

Having said that, i'm pretty fond of the White Sox so i'm not still done with Pierre.

Andruw Jones is also on the White Sox?

Orel said...

Perhaps White Sox fans got a taste of Beast Mode when he was with the Cubs?

Orel said...

Yes, Fanerman. Good times at Camelback Ranch come spring!

KempKershaw jumps for joy!

Juan and Andruw, BFF!!!

that's crazy - i never thought that would happen. I am glad he went to the other league - you know he would have hit a homer against us, just cuz

Orel said...

More likely steal home, à la Jayson Werth.

Josh S. said...

I'm going to laugh my ass off if they make him platoon with Andruw.

As a Sox fan, I'm cautiously optimistic about this deal. Juan is what he is, so there's no delusions there, but at least he's not Scott Podsednik.

Orel said...

This is a good deal for the Sox, but only because they're paying Pierre what he's worth (a little less if he can match his 2009 production). Thanks for checking in, Kjell.

What happened? Oh wait this is still my nightmare so I am going back to sleep.

Wake me up in March.

I bet Dusto is doing backflips right now.

Derek Lowe coming to Anaheim? I thought he hated the West Coast? Guess not as much as losing in Atlanta.
(This according to the OC Ragister)

rbnlaw- You know me too well. And yes, I am ecstatic, thrilled, and joyful right now.

Plus if we get John Ely and Jon Link in the deal, along with the salary relief, Colletti will get nothing but praise from me for this move.

Granted, he signed Pierre to an idiotic contract in the first place, which I will never forgive him for, but still, this trade is a clear Dodgers win.

Pierre looks baller with a mustache though.

Juan Pierre: He hits the hardest ground balls and the highest popups.

Kyle Baker said...

Hope we got a couple of track suits and a bag of old shag balls in that blockbuster deal. I get that we needed to move him off the books but shit, didn't get much of immediate use in return and still have to pay a chunk of the tiny man's salary. Heard it explained as a favor from Colletti to JP for his patience and class after being displaced from his starting spot.

We did something!!!!!

Its sucks that my juanpierrewood shirt is now worthless, but this should lead to an actual halfway decent free agent signing. (probabaly sometime in mid-late Jan.)

@DB

Well, we didn't get any PROVEN big league talent, but both Ely and Link are decent prospects and very close to the bigs. You can add Ely to the list of 5th starter candidates.

Kyle Baker said...

I hear ya, PB, and I'm not demeaning those fellas we got. It's just...well...I sure thought JP had a LITTLE more trade value than that.

And hey, that juanpierrewood shirt is NOT worthless now; rather, it becomes more of a collector's item.

Kyle Baker said...

Also, Juan Love - are you changing your name now?

Per Charter cable letter I just received, effective January 12, I will now get Prime Ticket HD in HD (ironically, it used not to be in HD), as well as MLB Network in full HD. Christmas came early/Hanukkah was good for me!

Hey, we got Juan Perez!

@DB

I wish we could've dumped a bit more cash on the White Sox, but I'm fairly happy with the return.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

I think Colletti is just trying to throw everything he can get his hands on against the wall to see what sticks.

Josh S. said...

Dusty, I didn't get that letter, but if it happens over here too I will be one happy dude.

Greg Zakwin said...

Dusty- Pierre would only have had more value if Dusty Baker were a GM. Or Harold Reynolds.

But getting two basically major league ready arms, both 25 or younger, and salary relief is more than I could have hoped for.

The fans most disappointed by JP's departure?
My kids. For some reason, they loved the guy. Could be because he's basically the same height as my 10 y-o. My 15 y-o daughter is slightly taller, I think.

Also, they dopn't remember suffering through 07 and 08 with him in the OF. Between him and Douche Mode, I was ready to become a huge tennis fan. Yes, I do remember defending him upon Manny's return, but seriously, his numbers don't warrant starting everyday with ManRam on the same team.
