I'm confused by the Monasterios trade/purchase. I can't see them carrying an A-ball level pitcher who was basically a started until last year on the big league roster all year. Unless they bought him for less than the rule 5 return fee and McCourt saw a silly way to squeeze a profit.
At least Zerpa looks like a guy with a heavy sinker if his 0.2 HR/9 career minor league stat is any indication.
And Repko is the one that gets offered arbitration?!?! Its like bizarro world around here. Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!
Repko made $500,000 last season. Even with a raise, he's a super-cheap fourth outfielder (if Colletti can trade Pierre).
I'm starting Zerpa's Sherpas right now.
A tidbit for the GLEEks here at SoSG:
The next new episode will not air until Tuesday, April 13...aka Opening Day at Dodger Stadium. The 2010 MLB regular season will be 9 days old by that point.
That, as they say, ain't right.
Fear not! The first "Glee" DVD set comes out 12/29!
Yeah, but I've seen those.
(Well, except for one major scene last night, since my DVR decided to spontaneously reboot 15 minutes in.)
There's a Director's Cut of the pilot with additional scenes (and one more song) that will hopefully be on the DVD set. I'm looking forward to rewatching the rest of the episodes so I can pick up all the Gleeky stuff.
Plus, if they're smart, they'll put Jane Lynch on the commentary tracks.
Zerpa, if I'm not mistaken, has spent his entire pro career (5 seasons) in rookie ball.
Yeah, real promising.
I keep reading how upset Dodger fans are over losing Hoffman. Uh, why? Repko/Hoffman/Paul are all 4th outfielders at best. Losing one is the same as losing the next. Sorry he's gone (although there's a significant chance he'll be returned), but he what's the use in getting upset over losing one of the guy's in a 3-way tie for your 5th OF spot?
As far as the pitchers, both seem worth our while, but like most Rule 5 guys, both will probably be returned.
PB, I think it was the promise Hoffmann showed: homering for his first major league hit, this throw, etc.
