Dodgers Shore Up Infield With Jamey Carroll

Breaking news from espn.com:

Veteran infielder Jamey Carroll has agreed to a two-year deal for just under $4 million with the Los Angeles Dodgers, major league sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney on Wednesday.

The deal is pending a physical exam.

The Dodgers, Indians and Athletics had expressed interest in Carroll, who has played seven seasons in the majors. He played 93 games for the Indians last season with a .276 batting average.

Carroll, rather than Ronnie Belliard or Orlando Hudson (both of whom would likely have been pricier, obviously)? Hmm. Poor Blake DeWitt.

Poor DeWitt? Who says Carroll's our 2B? He's a utility guy joining a team with no bench.

@PB

You are likely correct, but it wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong about something like the

But Carroll is a veteran. You know Torre loves the veterans,

It's most likely a platoon role.

Damn, I was hoping for Belly.

I'd say it's a decent signing. Carroll is a poor man's Mark DeRosa, and while I don't like the idea of a two-year deal, it adds depth to the bench, and we all know how much Torre loves a good bench guy.

Well we all know how I like a good drink but you don't see me spending 4 million on one. Wait let me check my bill....yeah!

Oh hell I will probably be calling for him to start over Furcal by May 1st.

Im been reading this blog since the beggining of last yrs season. I really love it. Best blog out there. Well i wanted to say that I believe its a good sign. Dodgers dont Castro, Loretta so this guy hopefully plays the role those two i named played last yr.

Oooh, a lurker! Very rare to see one out in the open like this!

*suddenly misses having Steve Irwin around a little bit*

Joking aside, you're right in that it all depends on the role he's asked to play. A little less wear and tear on the infield would be a step forward.

So what, Belliard would've been about $2M more? I like a guy who's produced for us in the past. On the other hand, Colletti seems hell-bent on reuniting former Indians.

Can Coco Crisp be far behind?

Joe Charboneau?
