There goes one of the bright spots in our starting rotation from last year. Randy Wolf to the Brewers:

But the upside for me is that he didn't go to a team I despise. The Brewers are pretty much the only other NL team I'm comfortable cheering for, unless they're playing (and/or trying to break into the clubhouse to murder) the Dodgers. I've got family in the Milwaukee area.
$27 million will buy a lot of Star Wars figures.
Good for the Wolf. Serves the Dodger brass right to get bupkus for him. Who needs draft picks when we can get nothing?

But if he had been offered arbitration, he might well have held off the Brewers (as in "let's wait and see what I get offered in arbitration first, to see my value"), and the brewers might have taken someone else before that time comes, fearing too high a price for Wolf. Teams get scared off arb-offered players. So then, he might have just hung on and taken his arbitration figure, which the Didgers would have been stuck with - probably far higher than they want to spend. That's why they didn't offer arbitration. Which is too bad all ways round.
