Chad Billingsley (9-4, 3.38) vs. Roy Oswalt (5-4, 3.85).
COMMENTS: Hopefully the Dodger bats will come to the stadium tonight rested and ready, as they've had a four-day rest from baseball. Unfortunately, they only had three days off. Due to his one inning of work in the All-Star Game, Billingsley gets the second slot coming out of the break. Meanwhile, Oswalt had a bout of finger numbness in his last start. Think Nancy Bea Hefley can work up a nice version of "Feelings" for Roy?

Is Bison still hungover?
Kemp claims the story is completely fabricated. That's the word going around the Dodger dugout tonight.
Oh wait, that's me who is hungover. Never mind.
Why in the world is Bison benched? I don't care whether the story is fabricated or not. That said, small sample size but Bison is 0-4 with 2 Ks against Oswalt. Meanwhile, Pierre is 12-34 (.353 AVG) with a walk and only 1 K against Roy-O. Additionally, RHB are hitting just .227 against Oswalt, while lefties are at .286 (and that is likely the only number Torre is looking at, though the OPS numbers are similarly lopsided).
Maybe this has far more to do with Torre sending message of how he's going to rotate Pierre in with Manny back. A good manager would be sending subtle signals to JP that he done good while Manny was out, and that he's still an integral part of this team. Maybe this is such a scenario. Maybe I'm reading too much, but it's something to consider.
Kenny G has an article up about it.

Looks like Joe actually does look at the numbers from time to time. I actually have no problem with this based on the numbers.
I think Kemp will have something to say before this game is over.
Early hole.
Ouch. Chad doesn't throw too many hangers, but that one had a coat on it.
Last time Kemp didn't start: May 20.
This ump is squeezing the zone tonight. Far cry from last night.
So much for the quick recovery.
Gameday has no idea how to classify pitches for Billingsley.
Too early to struggle, Chad!
Wow, they are hitting good pitches (well, except for that gift Chad gave Tejada)
Now THAT was the pitch Chad wanted to snap off to Tejada.
What the hell???
Well, that was all they needed last night. Oh, Chadley.
I don't see us scoring more than three runs off Oswalt.
Fuck it, I'm gonna watch Torchwood.
WTF is up with bills.
If this gets worse, you have to start thinking injury.
I fell asleep for a half inning. What'd I miss?
Maybe we will get to see loney pitch tonight.
Thank God it's over.
Is Ned on the phone to Toronto?
Nothing psyches a team up like a four run hole before one single at bat.
Oh, THAT Juan Pierre is in the lineup.
Well....
What else is on?
Was Bourn safe at first there for real? I'm at the game and from my vantage point I thought Loney beat him to the bag.
P.S. This sucks
It was extremely close. At best it was a tie.
Bills is fooling no one. The outfield is getting a workout.
6-0 Astros. This is so depressing.
Don't punch a locker Chad.
Great. Now the Blue Jays won't take Billingsley for Halladay.
Kidding.
Even the press box is groaning at this one.
SF 1, PIT 1, bot 12
"Even the press box is groaning at this one."
No groaning in the press box!
Did somebody tell Chad this was the playoffs?
This is basically a start for Weaver.
Low blow, Nic!
Vin called Blake's throw "a dead fish." Nice pick by Loney.
Didn't need that stat, Vin.
Might as well follow Bobby Knight's advice here....
The dodgers really know how to kill the mood in the game thread.
Post-Game Thread is up.
That was...intriguing.
That's the mistake we need to get back into this game!
"don't stop believing"
This is OT, but is anyone watching on MLB.com? If so, do you get the ads for Umpire Training Camp? Why does this sound so compelling to me?

Loretta
Seriously, since Post Game Thread is up, is this game thread closed for real? it's the middle of the game!, even if it is Osvalt on the mound.
Giants lost, I can sleep easy tonight.
Giants lose in the fourteenth!
Delino, are you still in the press box? We look awful.
Here's the slump we all thought would happen in May.
All three of loneys at bats have just looked awful tonight, like he was trying to get out on purpose.
Chad's not rad
Since there's nothing worth talking about, I was listening to 710 ESPN today, and Plaschke came on. Before you raise the pitchforks, he is against trading for Halladay if it means giving up Kershaw. Suddenly the respect level for him went up.
What if Halladay doesn't want to leave the AL?
Agree re: Loney. It's like someone bet him he couldn't hit three tiny dribblers a few feet away, run half-ass toward first, and get thrown out each time.
If not the Dodgers, I want Halladay to stay in Toronto or go to the Angels. He can't do any damage to the Dodgers with either team.
The kind of insight I must endure from my sister-in-law when the game is out of reach:
"Why do they sell DeWitt t-shirts but not Blake?"
I just said they must be out of "L"s.
