A Farewell to Citi Field

Citi Field, under less Armageddon-like skies.

Matt Kemp plays a game of shadows.

Ugh. Diamond Leung reports that Jayson Werth is replacing Beltran. The entire Phillies OF made the all-star team. BOOOOO.

Werthless? Dammit.

My respect for Charlie Manuel just took a hit.

Just wait. Next year, Torre won't even take the Phills who were voted on the team.
Manuel is a dooche.

So we have an entire Philly OF for the ASG?!?! Bullshit. I hope that's a false report.

Werth must be the guy who changes Charlie's colostomy bag

This is why I avoid the ASG. Never any Dodgers (or Angels for that matter), always overloaded with Yanks, Sox (Red and White), Mets, and Cubs. This year it's the Phills because they have the manager.

The AL will likely win, the HR Derby will be insufferable because Berman will do his "bakbakbakbakbakbak, gone" shtick that got old in 1987, and the format sucks (I did attend the HR Derby in 1989 at Anaheim and was most impressed by Bo Jackson).
The worst part is, I have to go 3 days without a game in July, and nothing else will be on.

So Philly, take your little line-up to the game and try to hold off the worst division in baseball down the stretch. Go Braves!

So the All-Star Game is the the American League vs. The Phillies. Thrilling.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Josh - It's actually the Red Sox vs. the Phillies.

What???

Charlie Manuel is a useless hick who over-relies on the phrase "You know, like..."

Not sure which pisses me off more, his 12-year-old-girl speak or his homerism for Phillies.

Come on, MLB, reign this shit in!

The Phillies 5 all-stars is pretty tame, I'd say. Just that 2 of them have come at the cost of Kemp (a superior player to any of the Phillies 3 OFers) is what is frustrating.

Kyle Baker said...

What is frustrating is that the team with the best record in baseball is ill represented.

Concur, Dusty. Concur.

Kemp missing out definitely stings, but I would like to hear some justification for why Werth was chosen (other than the obvious).

He wasn't in the Final Vote group, so unless he was the next highest player-vote-getter (MLB.com doesn't say either way), the pick makes no sense.

MR.F said...

Werth isn't really an awful pick. His bat speaks for itself and his defense is above average. Kemp has been significantly better, though.

I thought the player's vote had something to do with it. From discussions at Dodger Thoughts, the speculation has been that Werth had more player votes than Kemp.

Being on a world champ team gets you all kinds of street cred.
