Game 74 Thread: June 18 vs. Rockies, 7p

Inside the latest Dodgers strategy meeting.

Clayton Kershaw (6-2, 2.93) vs. Jorge De La Rosa (6-5, 4.12)

Bubbles, bubbles, and more bubbles! Suddenly, the Dodgers are having fun again, and a 9.5 game division deficit has become only 5. (Thanks for sucking, Giants!)

But does fun breed winning, or does winning breed fun? Aw, who cares? BUBBLES! AND DANCING!

Clayton Kerhsaw looks to complete the sweep and keep the Dance Party rolling. We know he can get down with his proverbial bad self, if need be.

Uh, on the other hand, maybe stick to pitching.

Uribe gif by @akaTheConman, naturally. Kershaw gif by Chad Moriyama.

Watching Kid K try to bust a move brings back memories of Mark Madsen (was that his name?) dancing at the Lakers parade.

I finally got my mom hooked up with TWC today. Tonight is the first game we've been able to watch together this season. I'm really excited to share this with her tonight, not sure there will be many more chances.

Lets have a good game tonight, Boys. Do it for mom!!

Dusty Baker said...

Poignant, Karen. Here's hoping you and your mom havea great game together.

karen said...

Hated Ones have LOST today.

Bubbles and Footsteps tonight, y'all.

Hideo Nomo said...

People be losing their shit over the Boy Meets World (and now Girl Meets World) cast being at Dodger Stadium. That show was never on my radar.

Dusty Baker said...

@Sax

Suds, as always.

karen said...

Dodgers score twice in the first. 2-0 going to second.

Dusty Baker said...

What kid Kemp do? I know Dee walked but lost track of how Kemp got on.

karen said...

@DB...He singled...of course!!

karen said...

Kid with 5 K's through 2 1/2.

Paul said...

What is up everyone? Go Dodgers! Our mojo is risin.

karen said...

Agon knocks in Puig with a double. Now 3-0.

Paul said...

I kinda like this winning thing.

karen said...

My Man doubles in Agon. 4-zip Blue.

karen said...

@Paul...Its much more fun then that whole losing thing.

Dusty Baker said...

George of the Rose must have watched Spain play today.

karen said...

MiggyRo doubles in Matty, SVS and AJ to break it open. 7-0 Good Guys.

Dusty Baker said...

Mikie Red double makes it 7-0. Can we play you every other week, Rockies? The off week we could play Snakes.

Dusty Baker said...

Kershaw is pitching well tonight.

(understatement)

karen said...

Kid K has faced the minimum through 3 and Vin hasn't said the words but is already talking about Kid K being the story. We all know how much I love our Vinny and I know he's just doing his job, but damn, I hate it when the talk starts.

Hideo Nomo said...

Fuck this game not being on TV!

Dusty Baker said...

Steiner just mentioned the word after the 4th. We can always blame it on him.

karen said...

Hanley shaking that right hand as he singles.

Dusty Baker said...

Great line from Monday about Bundy maybe needing to ice his arm after waving so many Dodgers around third tonight. Well done, Rick.

karen said...

Agon brings in Hanley. 8-0.

Dusty Baker said...

Kemp's walkup is Jay Z's Hard Knock Life? Am I late to realizing this?

karen said...

I'm a country girl so not up on JayZ's music. I do remember when I was a kid though and my friends mom had an album from the 60's by a group named Cream and they are AJ's walk up music.

Orel said...

Anything going on? No?

Hideo Nomo said...

Nope.

karen said...

Not a damn thing, Orel =)

Dusty Baker said...

I have half a mind to get in the car and drive over to the Yard and use my season seat.

karen said...

Don't move a muscle, Dust.

Dusty Baker said...

Good point, MKW.

Mrs Dusty, bring more wine!

Paul said...

Vinny can say it. The baseball gods know he is a saint.

Paul said...

It has been a very long day. Had a few drinks and planned to pass out early. I can't now. So on to a few more drinks.

karen said...

Sorry Paul!! I didn't know you were counting it out when I posted =(

karen said...

Vinny saying he doesn't believe in superstition. C'mon Vin!! You're the greatest baseball man I know!

Paul said...

"In this day and age you can text your friends...hashtag Kershaw or something."- Vinny

Paul said...

No worries Karen! You had it covered.

Dusty Baker said...

@Paul

No, on the sofa (Vinny). If my knee wasn't barking I'd drive over to the Yard and use my season ticket.

Orel said...

Jack & Coke activated

Dusty Baker said...

I'm on some Kunde Estate cabernet. What about others?

cc: Spanky

Orel said...

Those knees are barkin'!

Orel said...

MLB Network is on

karen said...

On a perfectly selfish note, my mom is staying awake and pretty focused on what we're seeing. She's always been a great baseball fan and as bad as the dementia has gotten she is actually comprehending what's going on here. No matter what happens tonight, I've been given a gift to get to see her understand and enjoy this.

Orel said...

GEEZ HANLEY

Orel said...

That's awesome, Karen!

karen said...

Error all the way. Gotta be.

Paul said...

Drinking an Oregon Pinot. After some G&Ts. Shake it off Hanley.

Dusty Baker said...

Error it is so no-no still on.

Paul said...

Awesome play Miguel!!!

Orel said...

Now that's some D! Rojas!

Hideo Nomo said...

Whooooooa.

Orel said...

Kersh at 93 mph

Paul said...

12ks

Dusty Baker said...

Good anecdote by the way, Karen.

I'm not meaning to be flip, but my mind is like that too - chaos punctuated by the organization and tranquility of baseball.

Glad you guys are enjoying a great game tonight.

karen said...

Thanks Dusty. It seems like nothing else makes sense for her anymore, but by some grace, baseball still gets in there.

Steve Sax said...

Holy smokage, this is an important game here.

Paul said...

Someone wake up FB.

Steve Sax said...

13 Ks. K to start the eighth inning.

Paul said...

Vin has been mentioning it since the 3rd inning.

Dusty Baker said...

Welcome back, Rip Van Sax!

Dusty Baker said...

Ellen is the loneliest number.

Orel said...

Karen — dealing with Time-Warner is worth it for what you're getting tonight.

karen said...

Foul. That stopped my heart.

It really is, Orel. My mom has tears in her eyes watching this. So far, I'm holding it together, but not expecting to much longer.

Paul said...

9th inning drinks on me!

Paul said...

Where is Neeebs when I need for him to pay for drinks I say I will pay for.

Orel said...

Kershaw at 101 pitches

Dusty Baker said...

No Dodger has thrown a no hitter at Dodger Stadium since Kevin Gross did in August 1992.

Orel said...

I think Neeebs is still in Manhattan Beach

Orel said...

Oh, and he's batting. Great

Steve Sax said...

nice standing o for Kershaw here in B8

Dusty Baker said...

I think Neeebs is still at Game 4 of NHL finals in NY.

Paul said...

Kevin Gross against the Giants. The only highlight in a 99 loss season.

Orel said...

SooHoo doin' work!

karen said...

I'm so glad he's not running the bases.

Steve Sax said...

another ovation for Clayton as he heads into the dugout

Orel said...

MLB Network has the good sense to shut their guys up in favor of Vin

Dusty Baker's Toothpick said...

So what's going on anyhow?

Steve Sax said...

And no one is talking to Clayton in the dugout. Everyone is up on the steps except Honeycutt and Ellis, who are standing next to Kershaw. Kershaw is on the bench, cleaning his cleats.

Dusty Baker's Toothpick said...

Drink check: scotch on the rocks

Paul said...

I tried to wake up FB but he probably is dreaming of red bulls and vodka.

Paul said...

Here we go. No commercial break!

Steve Sax said...

TWC not going to a commercial break before the top of the ninth.

How ironic, they're actually GIVING people television to watch, rather than the other way around.

karina said...

Dusty Baker said...

@mike_petriello:

So far as I can tell, no one has ever whiffed 15 with 0 hits 0 walks. Ever. EVER.

Dusty Baker said...

@CliffCorcoran:

Kershaw's no-hitter is the second-best nine-inning game score ever. Kerry Wood's 20 Ks: 105, Kershaw: 102

Dusty Baker said...

Jury seems to be that this was probably one of the best pitching outings of all time.

karen said...

Thank you Clayton. I really didn't think there was time to make anymore memories of a lifetime with my mom. I got that tonight. I don't think words can do justice to what my heart feels. I will never, ever forget this.

Hideo Nomo said...

I can't settle down. I'm pacing the house, alternating between grinning and smiling. GOT DAMN I LOVES YOU KID K.

Hideo Nomo said...

Grinning and crying, I meant.

Orel said...

Karen and her mom making me tear up a little

Steve Sax said...

That was huge, I'm still on cloud 9

Dusty Baker said...

Best no-hitter of all time: No one has ever had one with that many Ks (15) with 0 walks.

Orel said...

Twitter can't decide if Vin has called 19 or 20 no-hitters

Dusty Baker said...

MLB Network showing Tweets from other baseball players who are congratulating Kid K. Amazing how many also mention hearing Vinny calling it.

Orel said...

I thought the same thing, Dusty!

Cliff Beefpile said...

Just...WOW! We have the best pitcher in baseball, ya'll--being called by the best announcer in the history of the game. It doesn't get any better than this.
