Game 59 Thread: June 2 vs. White Sox, 7p

Clayton Kershaw (3-2, 3.57) vs. Jose Quintana (3-4, 3.61).

First things first: If you haven't read Cee Angi's profile on Vin Scully at SB Nation, do so here.

Done? OK. Wasn't that great? Anyway, interleague play returns to Dodger Stadium as the White Sox roll into town. The Dodgers have the good fortune of missing Chris Sale, and the White Sox get Kershaw first up. Take that, suckers!

Then again, the White Sox aren't the team that just dropped three of four to the Pirates, who lead only the eternally cellar-dwelling Cubs in the NL Central. The White Sox are the team that just lost two of three to the Padres. They are ripe for the plucking. Finish them, Clayton!

Speaking of ripe for the plucking, Chone Figgins is batting fucking leadoff. Look for another 0-for performance.

Figgins, 2B
Kemp, LF
Puig, RF
Ramirez, SS
Gonzalez, 1B
Van Slyke, CF
Turner, 3B
Butera, C
Kershaw, P

I'll take the over on that. Maybe because I haven't been watching any games.

"Chone is due, I've got a feeling about this one"

Fred's Brim said...

and you can't tell me SVS is a better CF than Matt

Orel said...

Gotta get Matty his reps in LF.

Who put together this big shit sandwich of a lineup?

Steve Sax said...

Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed Colletti!

Steve Sax said...

The mlb.com preview is all about Abreu's return.

(Not Bobby, to the Dodgers)

Steve Sax said...

Hey Magic:

Our @Lakers haven't gone on a long winning streak, either. I hope that will be coming soon!

Steve Sax said...

Hmm. With a .243 BA, you'd think Chone Figgins has been an unmitigated disaster. However, acc. to baseball reference, Chone has a 109 OPS+, driven by his .404 OBP (which trails only Yasiel Puig in OBP; Puig is at .437).

Hmm.

Does anybody else remember the headlines in the LA Times when Robin Ventura came over to the Dodgers?

"We needed Batman. We got Robin".

Still makes me giggle.

Fred's Brim said...

not a lot of hustle happening in that first inning. Matty was barely halfway down the line on that double play and Puig would have been safe if he has busted it out of the box

Steve Sax said...

We have one hit! They have none.

0-0 through 1.5

Fred's Brim said...

Clayton off to a nice start

Steve Sax said...

wow my gameday just loaded and it's all tweaked up. let me reload

Steve Sax said...

yikes, it still looks the same. anyone else having this issue?

Fred's Brim said...

Reading that Vinny story. I like the picture in the Let the Crowd Road section, a carton of smokes and a quart of Schaefer!

Fred's Brim said...

I think SVS is the only player who can do anything against lefties

Steve Sax said...

two-out SVS walk leads to nada

0-0 through 2

Steve Sax said...

I've got to get rid of this mlb.com gameday window, it looks horrible

switching to mlb.tv

Fred's Brim said...

do it, Saxy!

Fred's Brim said...

Another good inning for Clayton

Steve Sax said...

no score through 3

Steve Sax said...

i did it, FB!

Steve Sax said...

there goes the no-hitter

Steve Sax said...

Chone will not have an 0-fer performance tonight, for the record

Steve Sax said...

Vin calls that one staying in the yard, and of course it goes yard.

It's been that kind of year.

Steve Sax said...

2-0 CWS

Fred's Brim said...

godDAMMIT!

Steve Sax said...

Clayton goes back to work. 2-0 White Sox through 3.5.

Fred's Brim said...

This is team is hard to watch. They show you slight flickers of hope but then quickly piss all over them

Steve Sax said...

From watching all of these games, I can't believe we're even at .500. It seems like we should be at .250.

Steve Sax said...

Uribe, on the other hand, is well over 250

Steve Sax said...

puig, first ball swinging, quick out.

Fred's Brim said...

@Sax, I know what you mean about our record. We aren't as bad as were early last season when were kicking the ball all over the field and hitting and pitching like shit. It seems like that if we can get just a tiny bit better (or healthier) at each aspect, we can win a lot of games. I am only 60% confident that will happen

Steve Sax said...

my god, we're going to lose again. with kershaw on the mound.

bloody hell.

Steve Sax said...

@FB, this team plays with no heart

karen said...

Beautiful curve from Kid K to end top of 5th.

Fred's Brim said...

Let's get some runs, you assholes!

Fred's Brim said...

ugh, I am tired of these buttholes.
Time for bed. Gnite all. Keep fighting.

Steve Sax said...

WAKE THE FUCK UP, DODGERS

Steve Sax said...

Geez, it's like we scored 12 runs and then the team thinks they get the next three games off.

Mattingly had better well light a fire

Orel said...

What happened to Gameday?

Orel said...

Clayton taking care of business. 1-2-3 6th, singles in the bottom of the inning.

karen said...

Show us some BeastMode here, Matt.

Paul said...

Come Puig! You're our only hope!

Orel said...

Two one, one out for Puig. Quintana at 82 pitches.

Orel said...

Just when Gameday catches up to iOS7 graphics, Apple releases iOS8.

Orel said...

Puig goes down swinging.

Paul said...

Uh come on Hanley!

Orel said...

Hanley!

Paul said...

Getting gifts left and right in this inning. Need a clean hit now.

karen said...

We get one on the throwing error. We'll take it. Big time.

Paul said...

I'll take it!

karen said...

Call for another hit, Paul!!

Paul said...

Van Slyke homerun right here.

karina said...

épale everyone!

though I will gladly take these two runs, it troubles me the continuing bad defense from the White Sox.

I guess I should hide during these series :(

Orel said...

Two errors! We'll take it!

Paul said...

But I'll take a single.

karen said...

Epale Sistah!

Paul said...

Or a walk. Ok now let's do some damage.

karina said...

RANCHO ARDIENDO

Paul said...

karen said...

Are we getting the breaks or what??

Orel said...

Turn Turn Turn!

Paul said...

Gotta have some luck mixed in to get back on track.

Paul said...

#31

Orel said...

Dodgers turn two errors into five runs. And for Kershaw!

karen said...

Ahhh Matty. From 3-0 to a strikeout? You are so much better then this.

Orel said...

Javy!

Steve Sax said...

Three CWS errors = gift win for us

Orel said...

PgTUP!
