More On "More On Beckett's No-Hitter"

So I was staring at this last post and realized that there was one game, in 1940, in which there was no score of the game listed. Tex Carleton's no-hitter was the only Dodgers no-hitter (provided by mlb.com) which didn't have that accompanying game information.

So I did some sleuthing. James Otto "Tex" Carleton was born in 1906 and died in 1977. His baseball reference page has a nice picture, and the relevant game log page gives the box score of the April 30 no-hitter: Dodgers 3, Reds 0.

Carleton gave up 2 BBs but had 4 Ks, and also went 0-for-2 from the plate, reaching base on a walk.

Credit the footnote on Carleton's player page, along with the wonders of google, which allowed me to find a nice article on the no-hitter in The Eugene Oregon Register Guard newspaper of May 1, 1940:

There you go, Tex.

Good stuff, Sax.

Only 10k saw the game, too. I wonder if there were articles written about attendance being down, games being too long, etc.

Just like as it was in 1940, Dodgers fans couldn't watch the no-hitter on television.
