Russell Martin Finds a Team Worthy of His Intensity

"Oh Jorge, Brad Ausmus' veteran touch was never this tender."

Oh yeah, we're bitter. From "Martin's two homers propel Yankees" at Yankees.com:

Martin signed a one-year, $4 million deal with the Yankees after dabbling with the idea of catching for the Red Sox, but concerns about durability hovered over Boston's offer. New York needed Martin to take over for 39-year-old Jorge Posada, and the gamble has paid off so far.

"They were interested, but at the same time, they were worried about the injuries that I had," Martin said of the Red Sox. "It really just came down to that the Yankees were much more aggressive."

After admittedly losing some of his focus during those injury-plagued seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Martin said that putting pinstripes on has all the makings of a perfect fit.

"I love the intensity. It's really what I'm all about," Martin said. "It's going to be a fun year from that standpoint."

I'll let Karina sum up my feelings:

I avoided to watch my son playing for the Yankees 'till this afternoon and my heart is broken. It's like knowing the love of your life is with someone else and he treats the other girl better than ever treated you :(

Like most people who are shitty in relationships, they may be good for a while but once they get comfortable, they will fall back into their old habits

Yeah, whatever. He can't keep up this pace.

Gotta agree with the others. He was my favorite player for a long time. Then the injury, then the attitude. He is lucky, just plain lucky.

well...I think for somewhat reason, he wasn't comfortable with the Dodgers. He still is a favorite player of mine and I'm confident he has talent. Also, the fact Yankee Stadium might be the American League version of Coors Field will help him, even more when he's on a powerful lineup,he'll see lots of good pitches :(
