Say what you want about the Dodgers not being affected by the off-the-field Frank McCourt circus: the Dodgers are 2-0 since the Liberation Day announcement. And today, clad in throwback satin uniforms and gorging on half-price food and non-alcoholic drink, the Dodgers managed to staunch the bleeding of what would normally be a deathblow, unusually coming back to stun the Braves in dramatic, extra-inning, one-out, two-strike walkoff HR fashion, courtesy of Mr. 2011 Walkoff, Matt Kemp (who apparently has inherited the title from Andre Ethier, Mr. 2010). This kind of mettle had not been readily evident in the team's first 18 games. FREEEEEDOM!!!
Clayton Kershaw pitched a magnificent game through 26 outs that just came up a bit short, thanks to a two-run single by former Dodger-turned-Dodger nemesis David Ross with two out in the ninth. Casey Blake eked out a game-tying run with two out in the bottom of the ninth (Blake also hit a solo HR earlier in the game, to give the Dodgers a 2-1 lead going into the ninth).
Jonathan Broxton kept us alive in the tenth (Brox also had the last out in the ninth), and Matt Guerrier kept the Braves scoreless in the 11th and 12th to keep us afloat. In the bottom of the 12th, Ethier hit a one-out double to right, and Kemp took an 0-2 count deep to left center field.
The Dodgers end the homestand even, a huge feat after starting it 0-3. Off to Chicago for more daytime baseball tomorrow!
