Clayton Kershaw (2-1, 1.37) vs. Kyle McClellan (1-0, 2.25).
Call it the Kile Legacy: It worked yesterday, so the Cardinals are throwing another Kyle at the Dodgers. I'm taking my first sip of Macallan 12 as I write this, and the Cardinals' McClellan is making his first career start against the Dodgers, having previously only faced them in relief. If only we, Sons of Steve Garvey, had a Kyle of our own to throw at the Cardinals!
Judging from the general bummed-outness of yesterday's Post-Game Thread comments, many of you are convinced the 6-8 Dodgers don't have it — especially since they're in the same division as the best team in the majors, the 11-2 Rockies. The problem is clear: too many Uribes, not enough Kemps. And it feels like we're treading water while Frank McCourt litigates the team into oblivion.
But it's a damn long season, and there's still pleasure to be found in the performances of the likes of Matt Kemp and today's starter, Clayton Kershaw. They are the future of this organization, not McCourt. And I'll drink to that.
