The 11-1 Cardinal, the #2 team in the Pac-10, got pushed out of the Rose Bowl (which was a hell of a game, I must admit) all the way across the country to Florida's Orange Bowl, to meet "home team" Virginia Tech (11-2). The line for the game, as of a couple of weeks ago, was Stanford by three.
In late-breaking news, the Hokies shipped six unimportant players back from Miami due to rules violations, but I don't think that will have bearing on tonight's game. I don't recall those six guys factoring into VTech's loss to James Madison (they lost to one guy, for Pete's sake!).
Jim Harbaugh, on the other hand, looking to cap a great coaching run at Stanford (where he has built an incredible football program), auditioning to replicate his success at his alma mater Michigan? Now that might play into tonight's game. [UPDATE 5:10p: In an unintentionally laughably funny piece, Mark Kreidler of ESPN reveals his jealousy about Harbaugh's attention, btw.]
Go Cardinal!

Dusty, any truth to the rumor that you fled to New Orleans to escape the heat that was coming down on you for killing all those birds in Arkansas?
I knew it was Dusty!
I do hate crows...
Also check the fish kill on the Arkansas River. Coincidence?

I thought Lou Holtz was dead? Wishful thinking I guess.
Uh oh, Dusty's drinking hand grenades. We may never hear from him again.
26-12 Stanford through three quarters of play
Opened up the Moretti!
33-12 good guys
can't get more wide open than that one. wow.

Stanford defense is on fire right now
Shayne Skov is rocking the D
His haircut is a little shocking however
Harbaugh dodges Tafoya post-game! Nicely done!
David Nelms, CEO of Discover, has one horrrrrible haircut. Wow.
Shayne Skov should talk to that guy, stat.
Very impressive that they've got five Stanford players with Rece Davis and crew here on the post-game show, and all the Stanford players are answering articulately and politely.
David Nelms picture here. Wow.
There was no one at that game. . .or did everyone leave when the Trees started smacking the Turkey Killers?
you mean the Ents, RBN?
Whatever the hell a Hokie is.
Not that Rose Bowl attendance was lacking, but I still would have rather seen Stanford play there and TCU out in OrangeLand.
In honor of DB's everclear-soaked hand grenade, I thought it would be a good time to switch my avatar back to Bushwick Bill. May you continue to live your life Ever So Clear!
Dusty need bloody grenade.
Congrats to Stanford!
I guess they'll end up behind the champ and TCU, so at best #3 if they pass the Auburn-Oregon loser, otherwise #4.
If Oregon beats Auburn more impressively than they beat Stanford, hopefully it's enough to get Stanford to #3. If Auburn wins, it makes sense Stanford would be #4.
I read an article that said Stanford finished #2 in 1940, so they won't top that finish for "best in school history".
Slackers. Harbaugh and Luck had better stick around to claim that title.
