Vin Scully, from last night's Dodgers-Giants telecast:
I remember one game, Johnny Roseboro was the catcher for the Dodgers, and Don Drysdale was the pitcher, and Willie McCovey was the batter, at Dodger Stadium.Fouled away.
And Roseboro called a pitch, which, with a smirk, he referred to as a "country sinker." Which meant it was a spitter.
Drysdale threw the spitter, and McCovey hit it so far, you couldn't believe it, for a home run. Took your breath away.
Spitter! He dried it up in a hurry.
