Vin Scully, on the Country Sinker

Vin Scully, from last night's Dodgers-Giants telecast:

I remember one game, Johnny Roseboro was the catcher for the Dodgers, and Don Drysdale was the pitcher, and Willie McCovey was the batter, at Dodger Stadium.

Fouled away.

And Roseboro called a pitch, which, with a smirk, he referred to as a "country sinker." Which meant it was a spitter.

Drysdale threw the spitter, and McCovey hit it so far, you couldn't believe it, for a home run. Took your breath away.

Spitter! He dried it up in a hurry.
