Dodgers: 70-63 (3rd place NL West, 4.0 GB; 3rd place WC, 3.0 GB; W4)
Padres: 73-60 (2nd place NL Wast, 1.0 GB; 1st place WC, 2.0 GA; L1)

From Dodgers.com, the scouting report on the starters:
Dodgers: Wells rose to the occasion of his Big Apple return as a Dodger on national television, with five effective innings and even started the winning rally with a bunt single. Just seeing him chugging down the first-base line was priceless. Now he gets to show if it was a one-shot deal or if he has enough left to help in a September surge.Padres: Cassel will be recalled from Triple-A Portland in order to make his first Major League start. Cassel made his first big league appearance on Aug. 10 at Cincinnati, allwoing two runs on two hits over three innings of relief. Cassel has appeared in 27 games (24 for starts) for Triple-A Portland, going 7-14 with a 3.91 ERA.
From Inside the Dodgers, the lineup:
Furcal, SS
Pierre, CF
Kemp, RF
Kent, 2B
Ethier, LF
Martin, C
Loney, 1B
Hillenbrand, 3B
Wells, P

You know what's unjust and wrong? We win our game, we rest for a day, and Baseball Prospectus only gives us 0.2% points more likelihood for the playoffs. A conspiracy, I tell you.
Will the Dodgers turn Jack Cassel into the next Cy Young, as they often do with unknown pitchers?
Padres score to tie game 1-1. With that run, according to Protrade, the Padres' win probability goes from 50% to 56%.
Wells gives up RBI double to Khalil Green, 2-1 Padres. Padres win prob is now 68%
JUAN PIERRE FOR PRESIDENT
"This time Pierre sees it all the way...right into his glove." —Vin
EK, I don't know if you saw the Pierre fly ball, but for what it's worth, neither did Juan. Should we lose this game by two runs or fewer, it would be Pierre's fault. He'd better get two or more triples tonight,
Wells has been nails for four innings. 3-2 Padres.
Can we ever get consecutive hits? Jesus.
Jeff Kent is a raging bull! No sign from Donnelly and Kent barrels in for a run. 3-3.
"Let's go Dodgers" chant audible in background.
Kent shown splashing water on his face in the dugout. I'm surprised he didn't just throw the whole cup of water on his face.
Men on 1st and 2nd, one out. But Shea Hillenbrand is up.
Hey, if you Google "Steve Garvey" we're the third result!
Hillenbrand K's.
One more run this inning is all I ask
Oh well. Tied 3-3 after 6, yet Dodgers have a mere 38% chance of winning according to protrade
Orel, that's pretty cool. Imagine if we'd picked the name 'Sons of Tripp Cromer'.
JUAN PIERRE THREW SOMEONE OUT!
SoTC was our second choice, believe it or not.
James Loney gets hit by the batted ball and he still has the presence of mind to complete the play at first. This is why he'll win a Gold Glove one day.
I just bought the domain name for sonsofroncoomer.com. Any others I need to pick up tonight, while I'm shopping?
Btw since domain names charge by the pound, we're now in debt.
If they charge by the pound, good thing we didn't go with Sons of Olmedo Saenz
TonsOfOlmedoSaenz.com is also available.
why do I have this awful feeling, with Bradley up having gone 0-for-3 tonight?
Milton Bradley hurts us again.
Yep, I guess that's why I have this awful feeling. Beimel gives up a double, runner on first scores. 5-3 Pads.
Nice display of clairvoyance Orel
Beimel, go slice your hand in a Gaslamp district bar tonight. You're useless.
What about TonsOfOlmedoSaenz.edu?
Let me try the clairvoyance again.
Martin's force out means that Loney can't tie the game with a home run.
EK, How's the weather out there?
Oh well. Guess I'm not going to Vegas this weekend.
Roberto Hernandez is in--Grady has officially thrown in the towel.
Hernandez in. Game over.
Pierre gets one of the two runs he f'd up back, by hitting with a runner on second against Hoffman. Since that was so unexpected, I'll give him credit for it.
Two out, Kemp vs. Hoffman, Pierre on first.
And it's all over. Dodgers lose, 6-4.
Can't wait to see the Baseball Prospectus odds tomorrow. I'm guessing, our percentage odds decrease by more than 0.2%.
Good night, everybody. I'm going to go get drunk. (Maybe I'll see Joe Beimel at the bar.)
