Game 130 Thread: August 26 @ Mets, 5.05p

Dodgers start David Wells, LHP (5-8, 5.54) vs. John Maine, RHP (13-7, 3.64).

Dodgers: 66-63 (T-4th place NL West, 6.5 GB; T-3rd place WC, 4.5 GB; L2)
Mets: 73-55 (1st place NL East, 7.0 GA; W2)

Current postseason odds for the Dodgers, from Baseball Prospectus: 18.6%

From Dodgers.com, the scouting report on the starters:

Dodgers: Wells has been preparing for this start with three weeks of surfing and golf, which happens when you're 44 and believing you've retired. The Dodgers changed those plans, but Wells hasn't pitched in three weeks or won in five weeks. He replaces Brett Tomko in the rotation and on the roster. Not sure if he's got anything left, but if he does, a nationally televised comeback in New York is just his style.

Mets: Maine began his last outing on a sharper note than he has of late, but eventually unraveled and couldn't escape the sixth inning. While he finished with a no-decision, Maine -- for the fifth straight outing -- wasn't able to record a quality start. His ERA in August stands at 8.68, and his career ERA against the Dodgers at 5.23.

Why don't you come over to our side.
The Angels said the Dodgers belong with the little league team and do not belong in their league.

Are you talking about the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim?

Hey, believe me. If the Dodgers miss the playoffs and the Angels are in it, I'll happily root for them (as I did in 2002). I can't stand the Red Sox or Yank-Mes. And the Angels still need five more rings to equal the Dodgers!

Wells not looking too good in 1st but got lucky with that baserunning error.

Pierre triple scores Furcal, 1-0 in 2nd. Did Pierre get picked off 3rd? I zoned out for a second.

Crap. 2-1 Mets thanks to Wright double.

Dodgers have 2 on, no outs. I wonder how many they'll score...

Answer: zero.

I'm sorry but the first thing to do in the off-season is to dump Grady Little. This team is deflated and lacks fundamental skills and all he does is sit on his ass.

Meanwhile on NBC Willie Parker has 18-yd TD run for a 7-3 Steeler lead over Eagles. Nothing beats pre-season action. Except maybe regular-season and post-season action. But nothing else.

Anon, I vote to keep Gra- Whoa! Did Wells just leg out a bunt single? Or am I smoking something?

Wells was safe by a gut!

Now why didn't kemp score on that double? He was probably surprised ramon could hit it that far...

And wells comes around to score on Kemp bloop single then zenitram follows with RBI double. 3-2 Dodger lead. I'm gonna keep smoking this stuff.

Steve Sax said...

Kemp's lame baserunning costs us a run...

Eric Karros said...

Yeah Kemp was daydreaming or something that inning.

Brox puts out the fire. Should also get the H cuz of the inherited runners.

Looks like the Dodgers' lead is lastings...Milledge facing Saito with 2 out in bottom of 9th

Yay, we may get back over a 20% probability for the playoffs again. Whoop de frickin doo--a .500 road trip in cruch time (though at least Tomko is gone--that should be worth a couple of percentage pts right there).
