SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Texas Rangers reliever Eric Gagne will start the season on the disabled list, MLB.com reported Thursday.Gagne, formerly a dominant closer for the Los Angeles Dodgers, has missed most of the past two seasons after undergoing elbow and shoulder surgery. The Rangers want him to get more innings before he pitches in a majpr [sic] league game and are hoping to get him back by April 13, when they play the Seattle Mariners.
"He's feeling great," pitching coach Mark Connor told the Web site. "He just needs to pitch more innings."
Akinori Otsuka, who had 32 saves last year, will be the closer until Gagne returns, the Web site reported.

I don't think the author is disrespecting the fact that Gagne was the most exciting Dodger of the last decade or underestimating the fan interest he infused back into the Ravine. I simply think he's accentuating the theme we can all see of history repeating itself.
I think Eric is such a good guy and such a competitor, he doesn't realize his body will never allow him to revert back to the pitcher he once was. I am very sad for him, but like the author, I'm very happy we aren't going through that waiting game with him anymore, or paying a huge salary to do so.
