From the L.A. Times:
...although Loney has struggled in the field, he has convinced the Dodgers his bat demands a spot somewhere in the lineup by taking a .421 average into Friday afternoon's Grapefruit League game with the Minnesota Twins....Part of Loney's dominance at the plate can be traced to the performance-enhancing contact lenses he began wearing full time last year after four minor league seasons in which he hit better than .300 just once.
"It's kind of like wearing sunglasses," he said of the red contacts, which reduce glare but give his eyes an eerie tint. "I'm seeing the ball well. Just having fun with it and seeing where it goes."
I read that middle paragraph as:
...can be traced to the performance-enhancing [OH NO!] contact lenses [PHEW] he began wearing full time last year...
Plus: "I'm seeing the ball well." Correct grammar! A ballplayer after my own heart!
