The Impossible Has Happened

ESPN: Dodgers outfielder Drew opts out of contract

Minus 20 home runs but plus eleven million dollars. Somewhere, Matt Kemp is smiling.

Nomar is smiling too. The Dodgers just lost 100 RBIs from our offense. On top of that, we've now gotta find a new three-syllable player for them to go with their nifty three-beat chant (also formerly inhabited by Hee-Seop Choi).

It is nice to read the articles and see that Colletti is also pissed off about Drew's (er, Boras') "surprising" move. I share Ned's disappointment and mild anger on this one. We sat through a year of JD Drew as a toothpick, got a decent year this year, and a bunch of assurances that he was happy as a Dodger. Yeah, right.

I hope Drew tests the market, finds nothing, and then comes back to the Dodgers for less than his current $11M/year price. After holding out his rookie year and demanded $10M/year, he returned the following year by signing a $7M/year deal with the Cards. Let's hope history repeats itself.

Now use the money to go after Soriano - 20 more homeruns, youth, speed on the basepads and wont break down.
