The Los Angeles Dodgers and Major League Baseball tomorrow will celebrate the 67th anniversary of Hall of Fame Dodger Jackie Robinson breaking baseball’s color barrier in 1947. The Dodgers’ commemoration of Robinson takes place at Dodger Stadium, starting with a youth baseball clinic for 120 youngsters from South LA’s Challengers Boys & Girls Club from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) will also play host to 30 Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholars and Alumni tomorrow at Dodger Stadium from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. In honor of Robinson, the Dodgers will join all Major League teams in proudly wearing No. 42 jerseys tomorrow when they face the Giants in San Francisco at 7:15 p.m. The Dodgers’ game-worn Jackie Robinson Day jerseys will be auctioned at a later date to benefit LADF and the Jackie Robinson Scholars.

The first Jackie Robinson Celebration Game will be played Tuesday, April 15 at Holman Stadium at Historic Dodgertown - Vero Beach, Florida, matching Florida State League teams Lakeland (Tigers) and Brevard County (Brewers). With the cooperation of Florida State League President Chuck Murphy this is a regular-season FSL (Class-A) home game for Brevard County. Net proceeds of the game will benefit the United Way of Indian River County (admission is $5). Fay Vincent, Commissioner of Baseball from 1989-1992, will address the crowd pre-game with history about Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson. In the first game played by the then Brooklyn Dodgers at Dodgertown, Vero Beach, Florida on March 31, 1948, Robinson led off for the Dodgers against the Montreal Royals (Triple-A affiliate of the Dodgers) and hit a home run in the first inning. Tomorrow’s game is being played 67 years from the date in which Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field.
