Paul Maholm (0-0, -.--) vs. Ashley Madison (0-0, 0.00).
The Dodgers' vaunted starting pitching is reeling, with an uncharacteristic performance yesterday by Hyun-Jin Ryu, Clayton Kershaw on the DL, and now even Josh "Beer-swilling" Beckett injuring himself fielding a bunt in a Class-A game. I can't make this stuff up.
So we look to Paul Maholm, a journeyman pitcher who had seven mediocre years with the Pirates before rolling around the league, to get us back into the win column. Maholm pitched 0.1 IP in Game 2 in Sydney, striking out Miguel Montero on four pitches with a runner on first in the ninth inning. He was relieved by Kenley Jansen, who gave up a two-run HR before closing the game up. Why the heck not Maholm, I suppose?
Hopefully Yasiel Puig will get to the Stadium bright and early this time, so he too can be rolling with Maholmies.
Thank you Rancho Cucamonga! Good night!
