Post-Game 120 Thread: Barved

BRAVES 4, DODGERS 3 (11)

Don Mattingly got killed on Twitter tonight. With the Dodgers leading 3-1 in the eighth inning, he pulled Chris Capuano, who had given up consecutive bloop singles. After Ronald Belisario gave up an RBI, Mattingly kept Beli in to face Jason Heyward, who's hitting .228 against lefties. Tie game.

Then in the top of the tenth, Shane Victorino bunted with Elian Herrera on first, eventually taking the bat out of the hands of Matt Kemp, who was intentionally walked. Did Mattingly call for the bunt? Hard to tell, but sometimes you're going to lose no matter what: Donnie batted Juan Rivera for James Loney in the eleventh, and Rivera — surprise! — hit into a double play.

Overshadowed by the road misery was Capuano's great start and Andre Ethier's two-run homer in the sixth. Dodgers are 5-3 on the current road trip; Giants are killing the Padres, so hello again, second place.

The Dodgers are toast! Losing Melky means nothing in the long run! Let's all overreact!

Just hold your hyperbolic horses, there, MLASC. I haven't seen Nosty forecasting doom just yet.

Losing winnable games still chaps my ass, though.

Ah. I stand corrected.

Donnie Baseball may have gotten slammed on twitter, but at least he wasn't wearing a pillbox hat.

5-3 on the roadtrip. Still a chance to make this a very good trip.

Or at worst, a mediocre one.

Indeed, I am far more annoyed at the existence of some semblance of Giants offense. This will not stand.

Just imagine if we had Prince at first.

I think this will just set us up to pound the Giants back into second place next week. No worries.

Damn Victor Martinez. Damn him to Kansas City in August.

I don't know how much good Prince would have done for the Dodgers wearing high heels and a speedo at first. we would all have been Delirious and he would have caused a Controversy.

Donnie has gone on record (and I don't have the quote at the moment) as saying he's not a pitcher's manager. He tends to rely on the word of Honeycutt and Howell for when to use/pull guys.

That doesn't really excuse him, since he should make up his own damn mind, but it sounds like he's getting bad advice.

The bunting, though? All Donnie B.

Second place is not as much fun.
