Blockbuster: red Sox, Dodgers working on deal that would send AGon, Crawford, Beckett and Punto to LA. Hurdles remain, but closing in
— Gordon Edes (@GordonEdes) August 24, 2012
Sweet Tweetsus! I have to admit getting swept by the Giants made me think beyond this season and when Yasiel Puig would be able to join Kemp & Ethier, but I'm glad the Guggenheim boys aren't thinking this way.
Carl Crawford comes with an albatross of a $100 million-plus contract, but you would hope he would find Dodger Stadium a lot more to his liking than Fenway.
Are we Adrian Gonzalez fans? Yes we are. But the hidden gem here could be Josh Beckett. Freed from the bullshit of the Boston market — as well as having to be a top-of-the-rotation guy — he could unburden himself in L.A. as well.
Will he get a chance to? Here's hoping we find out.

I don't know, man. I like AGon and all (Pujols would have been a fine pickup had the Googs gotten here sooner), but Crawford?
Crawford would be the leverage the BoSox have to let us complete the deal - they want to unload him. So if this deal happens, we'd have to take on Crawford and his deal. Obviously things haven't worked out in Boston, and Crawford has been hurt a lot of the time. On the other hand, once he heals - and the Sox have handled his healing extremely poorly, waiting way too long for him to have TJ - he should still be a top player for a few years.
Per Bill Shaikin:
#Dodgers minor leaguers in #RedSox trade talks have included Webster, Lee, DeLaRosa, Sands. Not saying any or all will go, but talks.
...and Uribe.
That explains the surprise De La Rosa DL activation this week...
The inclusion of Punto makes me think and infielder on the current 40-man roster is going back. Maybe DeJesus or even Dee?
And Uribe?
I don't know about Beckett. He seems like another Blanton--pitcher whose time has come and gone--except unlike (what ive heard of) Blanton, he's got an arrogant attitude to boot. The 5+ ERA and penchant for off-day golfing don't help, either.
For this, we would give away prospects? AND take on the albatross contract of Crawford? I don't know, I'm uneasy.
DKOTG: I worry about your wet dream fantasies.
@Orel fall is coming and we need someone to warm the bench :)
*feels like a bad person*
Amen, Karina!

Yeah. RT @SBerthiaumeESPN: From @GordonEdes #Dodgers discussing sending De La Rosa, Loney, De Jesus, Sands + another top prospect.
I honestly don't know what to think.
Dylan H just tweeted that Loney has been scratched from the lineup. This could be joyous on multiple levels.
Molly Knight @molly_knight
There it is. RT @MikeSilvermanBB: And yes, Adrian Gonzalez has been scratched. #RedSox
And....there it is. Fire in the hole!!!
Loney has grounded into has last DP...as a Dodger that is.
Let's shift trade talk to the GT now that it's up (thanks, Orel!) so we don't Scooby Doo it.

And Uribe...
@ Sax
Don't forget that Beckett was part of the fried-chicken-and-beer-in-the-clubhouse-during-game-time posse. That was the crowd that got Francona canned, and Valentine hired.
Just a guess, but Donnie's gonna be watching Beckett's work ethic like a hawk the moment Mr. Joshie reports for work as a Dodger.
