Game 103 Thread: July 26 vs Rockies, 7p

Clayton Kershaw (11-4, 2.72) vs. Jhoulys Chacin (8-7, 3.60).

Chacin has not won since June 15, losing his fourth straight decision Thursday over 4.2 IP against the Braves. Kershaw has not allowed an earned run in 23 innings spanning his last three starts, including his last start in which he outpitched Tim Lincecum for the second time this year, and frankly every Kershaw start is must-watch TV, or viewing in person if you can swing it.

But that's not why you're going to tonight's game, right? You just want to get your grubby little hands on the Fernandomania bobblehead (for the first 50,000 fans in attendance; I don't think you'll have a problem even if you get there late). Who can blame you; it looks pretty sweet, and much better than the other 2001 Fernando Valenzuela bobblehead SGA ($70, are you kidding me?). I have a feeling that you'll hear the song below once or twice tonight. I also have a feeling that the guy with the long hair will be sitting right in front of you, the locks of his golden mane flowing over his seatback and into your lap. Bring some s'mores for that there campfire.

SF @ PHI recap: Lincecum scratched due to stomach illness (yeah, right). Barry Zito takes the mound...and is down 4-1 after one inning.

Jason said...

Gwynn - LF
Furcal - SS
Ethier - RF
Kemp - CF
Miles - 3B
Rivera - 1B
Navarro - C
Carroll - 2B
Kershaw - P

Apparently the Giants use "stomach illness" as a euphemism for "extreme case of the munchies."

Fred's Brim said...

I have the 2001 Fernando bobblehead somewhere. I think he's in his box next to the William H Seward bobblehead my dad got me from an Auburn Doubledays game last year

Fred's Brim said...

Isn't there something you can take, some natural, yet controversial, home remedy you can take to calm an upset stomach?

Jason said...

@FB

Mr. Burns' Brain and Nerve Tonic? I hear that causes gigantism though.

Fred's Brim said...

@Jason doesn't that cause glaucoma?

Steve Sax said...

@F 4.24p: Chacin is a righty.

Oh, wait.

5-1 Philly after 4 innings

Just picked up a Derrek Lee badge (BAL, 2 H)

Steve Sax said...

Snagged a CC Sabathia badge (NYY, 7 Ks)

Steve Sax said...

Snagged a Mike "high-bunting" Aviles badge (KC, 2 H)

Steve Sax said...

ugh, just snagged a Barry Zito badge (SF, 6 Ks)

Steve Sax said...

Chase Utley, inside-the-park HR off of Zito to make it 6-1.

AND, acquired Utley badge!

Fred's Brim said...

@Sax - is there a prize for having the most badges at the end of the season? You have to be up towards the top if they do

Steve Sax said...

I think I get a big plaque that says "I AM A MLB.COM BADGE WHORE"

Or, I get a mint set of MLB pogs. One of the two.

Steve Sax said...

You gotta go watch the highlight of the Chase Utley inside-the-park HR tonight against the Giants. SF bumbled in the field (Andres Torres wasn't close to making the catch, and the Giants' RF didn't provide backup until it was too late), and then it looked like Whiteside *may* have made the tag at the plate? Oh well, sorry SF.

Phillies win. Giants LOSE.

Jason said...

@Sax

I got the Zito badge, too. I'm just glad I didn't get an Aaron "Hold on sec I'm taking a dump at the plate" Rowand badge.

Jason said...

Adrian Gonzalez (2 hits) and Mike Aviles (2 hits) badges in the case.

Steve Sax said...

hey, i forgot about the a-gon badge. cool. i may have already had that though...

I've got 226 badges so I'm half-expecting DelinO to come bounding into my badge case with the 227 theme song

Steve Sax said...

just picked up a Jered Weaver badge (ANA, W)

it can only be JERED!

Jason said...

I just noticed that Curtis Granderson and Ramon Hernandez are the only badges in my case that lists the player by last name only. It can't be strictly by length, Clayton Kershaw, Cliff Pennington and Magglio Ordonez were squeezed in (and so was CC Sabathia, but that is more width than length).

Steve Sax said...

oops, i may have closed the window before the weaver badge registered...

Steve Sax said...

@Jason: I've noticed the same thing. I have "Cuddyer" up there, though "Michael" clearly could have fit.

Jason said...

I have a measly 84 badges.

Tonight's Dodger badges:

Kershaw - 7 K
Loney - Triple (ha!)
Gwynn. Jr. - SB

I've already got a Kershaw so I don't expect to pick anything up there.

Jason said...

I wish I could have gotten a Cuddyer for him appearing as a pitcher yesterday. Any time a position player has to pitch in a game should be an automatic badge.

Steve Sax said...

Dodger badges available today:

Kershaw 7 Ks (kinda sounds like SoSG Streaking, if you asked me)

Loney triple (yeah, right)

Gwynn SB (very possible)

Jason said...

This is the first time I can recall in a while that the 8-hole hitter had a higher batting average than the pitcher on a night Kershaw or Bills was pitching. Sadly, the 1, 2, 6 and 7 hitters (and the entire bench) can not say the same.

On the plus side, the Rockies sport lower battering averages than Kershaw in the 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 holes (and 4/5 of their bench).

I would like to make a side proposition bet on who has more hits tonight, Clayton Kershaw or the entire Dodgers bench combined. The line would be the bench giving one hit, I think. Winners get a half-priced beer, on Sax.

Jason said...

Alex Gordon (double) hits the case.

Jason said...

Seattle with the bases loaded on 1 out (with Figgins at the plate so, 2 outs) in the 8th trying to break their bajillion game losing streak.

Jason said...

Wow, Figgins drives in a run while making his customary out. 3-1 Yanks.

Jason said...

I just noticed that the new At-Bat image for Yankee Stadium looks like someone did donuts with their car on around the plate. Nice touch.

Jason said...

And Ichiro strikes out the end the thread. Some guy named Jeter is due up.

Kyle Baker said...

Vin said "...wherever you are" not "...wherever you may be." Nonetheless and regardless:

On the sofa, Vinny!

Jason said...

On the bus, Vin!

Steve Sax said...

My Vance Worley badge appears to be corrupted, I have no picture. Hmm.

Steve Sax said...

gimme a K here, kershaw

Fred's Brim said...

whoooosh - that was the saddest wave at a pitch since Loney yesterday

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

An anagram for Jhoulys Chacin is "Cynical Josh Uh."

Fred's Brim said...

And Clayton works around the leadoff "double": ill K, weak grounder to SS, weak grounder to SS

14th inning for Pittsburgh at Atlanta, tied at 3

Josh S. said...

Am I crazy or have we given up a run on three straight singles a bunch of times this season?

Fred's Brim said...

@Josh and it seems like they all happen with 2 outs

Fred's Brim said...

The Padres are the free HD game on my cable. They have this Neshek dude in and he has this ridiculous delivery. When he starts his motion, he bends low and it looks like he's gonna throw underarm but then he straightens back up and throws sidearm/laredo

Fred's Brim said...

what the hell? that's the second time covering a steal has hurt us

Steve Sax said...

hmm, this is not good.

Fred's Brim said...

And the crazy delivery isn't working - he has walked 4 straight to start the 9th inning

Fred's Brim said...

Helton is just praying for the walk

Fred's Brim said...

Clayton gets the out but the Rox score the run from third. 3-2 good guys

Josh S. said...

Crap.

This ump can go to hell.

Fred's Brim said...

And Donny is taking him out

Jason said...

Clayton with 125 pitches. That is just ridiculous for a lost season.

Fred's Brim said...

agreed

Fred's Brim said...

home run? or just a double?

Fred's Brim said...

glad to be wrong

Jason said...

Ah, Rex Brothers Moving and Storage in for the Rox.

Paul said...

Hola everyone!! I'd like to see a few more Dodger runs. I also would like 46k in cash.

Paul said...

K I'd settle for a Dodger run and 23k.
