Get Your Red-Hot Dodgers Trade Rumors (Swirling Around Room-Temperature Players)

First, MLB Trade Rumors reports that the Dodgers are among the finalists for Guillermo Mota, and when they say "finalist" I hope they mean "the party furthest away from any possible chance in hell of signing:

Guillermo Mota has been offered minor league contracts from five clubs and the "finalists" for his services are the Dodgers, Giants and Rays, reports Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes on Twitter [Sax's note: I can't read Spanish so I hope this is right]. Mota, 37, signed a $750K minor league deal with San Francisco last winter, but it paid off in the form of his first World Series ring. Mota posted a 4.33 ERA in 56 relief appearances last season, including 2 1/3 scoreless innings in the Fall Classic.

The well-traveled Mota has pitched for seven teams in his 12-year career, and it would be his third stint in Dodger blue if he were to sign with Los Angeles.

Luckily for us, we know that Ned Colletti never signs former Giants who are hoping for an additional tour of duty with the Dodgers. Nosiree, Bob.

MLBTR goes on to say that the Dodgers, along with the Yankees, are among the front-runners in a four-team frenzy for the services of Bill Hall:

The Yankees and Dodgers are the "most aggressive" of the four teams interested in Bill Hall, tweets Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe [Sax's note: this tweet, I can read]. We heard about the Yankees' interest in Hall last month, and the Astros and Pirates are probably the other two clubs in the hunt.

Again, lucky for us, Colletti never chases a .240-ish hitter (admittedly with 18 HR for Boston last year, mostly playing left field). Yep, we're safe.

I am practically giddy with excitement. Can't you tell?

Still, with 18 HR's, Hall would be a giant among men in the Dodger line-up.

As for Mota, will Ned ever learn? Or is it "never learn?"

Whatever, STAY OFF THE CRACK PIPE, NED!!!

Swirling. That's pretty damn appropriate right there.

How many people do we have on the 40-man roster? It feels like we keep adding people but never subtract anybody

Hey, some of us toil in the Europa League. Count your blessings.

Yeah, fuck me. Arsenal get to face Messi for two games in consecutive years. Last year, they played a great game at the Emirates, but lost Fabregas for the rest of the year. Messi's display at the Nou Camp was nothing short of massive.

Meanwhile, Man U remains the Devil's partner, and DB is beaming over the Blues chances of being in the final.

Spurs can suck it.

Wicks said...

hahahaha, I love the passion. It sucks to be Arsenal right now but I won't gloat too much because Spus/AC Milan could go either way.

But we can all agree that Man U sucks worse than the McCourts!

Finally, the O-Dawg has come back to the NL West!

In, uh, San Diego.

Swirling, swirling, swirling towards mediocrity!

Looks like Hudson's playoff streak will end at two seasons.

@Saxy: come on, don't kid yourself. Of course you can read Spanish. You may not understand it, but you can read it. Russian on the other hand...

Nostradamus said...

I dunno, Neeebs. Those tildes are awful squiggly.

Josh S. said...

I saw the Squiggly Tildes open for The Flaming Menudos once. They were way ahead of GG Allin on the whole flinging feces thing.

(But still far behind monkeys.)

At the risk of further hijacking the thread (my apologies)...

In my email this AM:

"Congratulations ~ you have been selected to have your photo taken with the San Francisco Giants' World Series Trophy!"

It's really happening folks.

So, ideas on poses? It's gotta be something that gets posted on my Company web site, hence, rated G. I'm leaning towards holding my nose and making a disgusted face, as though disgusted by the revolting stench...

Bill Hall signs with 'Stros.

Josh S. said...

@Pete: What about throwing up the L.A. sign while wearing 5 rings?

Josh S. said...

Did I just feel a twinge of disappointment at not signing Bill Fucking Hall?

I need to see a doctor.

Pistol Pete Reiser said...

@Josh

Same bizarre reaction here...

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

It likely means we'll end up with Podsednik, which would result in the suicide of every single Dodger blogger.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

I'm disappointed because it just serves to boost Plaschke's ego.

"Look, they didn't get some moron with a .240 average! I was right! NOBODY WANTS TO PLAY IN LA ANYMORE!"

Josh S. said...

OK, here's what we'll do:

Move Ethier to left and start Jamie Hoffmann (he of this wicked DP) in right.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

Yeah, but Hoffmann has hardly any experience. I'd rather see X-Paul start over him.

Josh S. said...

Yeah, but, uh...

XPaul is awful.

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

How about Marcus Thames? He has good power.

Josh S. said...

@MLASC: Wrong side of 30 and injury prone. Surprised Ned hasn't offered him 4 years.

Wicks said...

Austin Kearns is still out there right? He had a .351 OBP with 10 HR that wouldn't be a horrible platoon option.

Steve Sax said...

@Pistol Pete: you gotta send us the picture. We will post it.

It would also be cool if you took the trophy and broke off a couple of those little flags. Or threw it in the bay.

Pistol Pete Reiser said...

@MLASC,
Hall signing confirmed, 1 yr/$3mill. That's less than half a Uribe (in $ and weight). There's just too many mocking possibilities here, all of which leave me sad and hollow inside.

Pistol Pete Reiser said...

@Sax,

Don't really think I'm going to be allowed to touch it, it's all very controlled in terms of who/when/where we're getting this close to it (being toxic, obviously).

Seriously, I get my chance between 3:30-5 next Tuesday afternoon. Email said the photo (I think I only get one shot) will be posted as soon as the next day, hopefully on such a site that I can rip a copy. If I get too malicious with this thing, I could get fired... so, my options are somewhat limited.

@PP: Flip it the Bird!!!!!!!! The Big Bird!!!!!!!!!

Steve Sax said...

@Pistol Pete: employment is overrated. We can hire you here; we need an editor.

Cliff Beefpile said...

I can eddit really good just give me a chanse!

Mr. LA Sports Czar said...

I'm seeing a lot of people on twitter, MLBTR, Dodger Thoughts, etc., saying the Dodgers should "sign" Zach Grienke (obligatory mention of his small head here).

I'm sorry, is he a free agent? NO! HE'S FUCKING ROYALS PROPERTY! SAY TRADE, FUCKING MORONS.

Yeah, it's been that kind of a day.

Zach Greinke does indeed have a tiny head.

Soccer sux!

The Dodgers need to "sign" or "trade" anybody GOOD...not Guillermo Mota...not Bill Hall. What a shame how the Dodgers have fallen so low...Juan Uribe (Gag). How about making a play for Jose Reyes or Zacj Grienke
