Colletti Continues Scraping Bottom of NL West Barrel

Dodgers Sign Tony Gwynn Jr. (MLBTR)

A minor-league deal would be understandable, but the the article/tweet says "one-year major league deal." Welcome to the rotating door that is left field!

UPDATE: Other hires:

#Dodgers have hired Wade Taylor as an advance scout (formerly of Yankees and Nationals)
#Dodgers have also hired Bill Latham as a pro scout (formerly of Red Sox)

What I'm asking myself is whether he will suck harder than Jose Cruz, Jr.?

He only gets about three hits per year, and they are usually against us when we can least afford them.

Seriously? I hope on October 3, 2011 I can look back and say what an idiot I was for doubting this signing. I'll assign myself a task to report back on that date with an answer.

I like this signing. Cheap, can be a solid late-inning defensive replacement, and can pinch run. But I'd still like another outfielder to platoon with Gibbons.

Fair enough, MLASC, fair enough.

Man, your International Scout comment made me laugh so hard I shot Sam Adams through my nose Mr C.

That'll clear out your sinuses something fierce!

It was the Boston Lager, not the Cherry Wheat, so I coped.

The Dodgers may have also signed Scout Willis, but it's just a Rumer at this point.

Does anybody else think that Xavier Nady would be a decent choice for left field? He was really good in '08, hurt in '09 then got limited time in '10 until Lee was traded. After that, he did pretty well. 2 years at 10 mill sounds reasonable. Any thoughts?

I'd rather have Navy than Gwynn *sighs*

I have a hunch this WWinter meetings will leave either "Meh" or utterly raged :(

IN other news; The Dodgers have just increased the size of their dressing room to accommodate a longer buffet table.

Uribe and Gwynn like this!

"Also, the Dodgers are in negotiations on a minor league contract with longtime major league infielder Juan Castro, who potentially would be joining the organization for the fourth time."

Oh good GOD.

@MLASC: Boras is persona non grata in L.A.

And not that I care, but have the Angels made ANY moves. I keep hearing that they're in on Crawford, but it just seems like a talking point rather than a reality. I thought Arte was supposed to be the fan-friendly spend-happy owner.

Juan Castro can be the 7th man in our rotation.
