Dreamy & Thoughtful

"I got this pinkie, see? And this pinkie usedta help me hit home runs, see? But I broke it, see, and nows I ain't so hot, see? Puttin' on the Ritz!"

Thanks to SoSG reader Nancy Bea for the heads-up: Andre Ethier did an interview with the LA Times Magazine, and I found this exchange interesting:

Then let me ask you as a fellow Catholic who has grappled with this question: How do you reconcile your faith with the abuse scandals that have been so prominent in the church?
You feel a little bit ashamed and embarrassed for the way they handled some of those situations. Who wouldn’t if you belong to whatever group it is? You can relate it to the Dodgers: If they were to handle certain situations in a certain way, and you’re a follower and a fan of the team, you might be embarrassed and upset, but you don’t disown it and just say that’s it. Hopefully they’re making strides, sooner and quicker than they have in the past.

Interesting analogy from Dre. We fans are still waiting and hoping for great strides. Using Saxian's baseball metaphor, the reality is we haven't abandoned the train and we are collectively hanging on as it speeds toward implosion. It is loyalty, insanity, or both? Regardless of it's one helluva ride

Oops, forgot the last period.

Still asleep, meant to say is it instead of "it is".

Thanks for policing your grammar, MB. I wouldn't want to see a period left off of the end of a sentence first thing in the morning. Crisis averted! ;-)

DB, it sounds like you are already in crisis mode. I wouldn't want to add to it. MB is paying the price for the wild days of her youth when she regularly skipped English class along with assorted others. Thanks to people like you I am more cognizant of what I say or write. Maybe there is still hope.

MB- Just don't ask me to do math. I hide behind my English.

Instead of posing for precious photos this mutt should be taking extra batting practice. Learn to hit a curve from a lefty "champ".

Well if the Dodgers keep it up I will be attending as many games as I have attended Catholic masses in the last 10 years.

I can virtually guarantee I'll have gone to a lot more masses in the last 10 years than they'll see me at the park for the rest of the season, and I'm not Catholic.

I really have a problem with this. Maybe it's just that "ashamed" and "embarrassed" sound too weak to me. The Catholic Church covered up and enabled child molestation for years, can we get a "disgusted"?

And then there's the comparison with being a Dodger fan: the Dodgers could make the worst trades ever and it's still nowhere near as horrible as what the Vatican ordered. And if Dodgers officials were involved in similar crimes, I would root against the Dodgers until every responsible person in the organization was gone.

He should probably concentrate more on hitting and less on talking. I don't think he is the brightest Dodger.
