Game 139 Thread: Sept. 2 vs. Padres, 7p

Clayton Kershaw (2-5, 4.56) vs. Cha Seung Baek (4-9, 4.99). 2.5 games behind.

COMMENTS: Three wins in a row, and suddenly Dodger fans have a new hope, right? Not so fast, as the Dodgers start young and feisty Clayton Ker-Zakk, who was most recently pummeled by both Filians and (Jabiimi) Nationalists, compiling a 15.63 ERA over 6.1 innings over his last two outings. The Padawans, meanwhile, start Cha Seung Bacca,who--wookiee here!--has been pitching pretty well for the Padres as he vies for a slot in next year's starting rotation.

Put another way, the Padres are bringing Sexy Baek. So we'll see if us motherf'ers know how to act. (Take 'em to the bridge!)

Star Wars and Justin Timberlake seamlessly used together in one game thread. I love it! I'll be at this game tonight, in the super-duper corporate seats! Dugout Club here I come.

karina said...

Oh Steve, all those Star Wars references are breaking my heart. Only a win (do they need the Blue Squadron?) http://tinyurl.com/6cyjea , could help to restore the balance of the Force.

If we lose, maybe we'll need this guy in the bullpen: http://tinyurl.com/69m8hx and this guy as utility infielder http://tinyurl.com/5ha6tr, viceversa or even to give son Martin a rest...rumor has it they are masterfully skilled.

So, Younglins and Jedi Knights:

Then man your ships. And may the Force be with you

karina said...

Have a great time on the fancy seats, Quad!

Steve Sax said...

Quad, I like how you roll.

Have an extra hot dog for the Sons.

Steve Sax said...

Karina, long time no see! How are things?

Steve Sax said...

Clayton had better bring the good stuff tonight.

karina said...

I'm fine, Steve. Busy, because i got a gig, styling a fashion spread at a small magazine, so my days have been dedicated to locations, clothes and accessories. It's not very fancy, it's just my padawan and i. Between that and school, days are filled, which is very GOOD.

Long time, indeed. I hope we can comment on this game thread.

karina said...

Kershaw used 7 pitches to cruise the first.

karina said...

Ethier singles, ManRam HR!

Dodgers 2- Padres 0

Loney Fan said...

What the hell was that?! Never going to see that again

Loney Fan said...

Nice play by Dewitt!

Berroa and his famous disappearing act appearing live in Vegas soon!

Orel said...

This is where Maddux pays off. Kershaw hasn't been this efficient...ever?

5-0 Cards over the D'backs....

karina said...

I'd wish i could see it. Could you describe it, Loney fan?

karina said...

Back to back singles of DeWitt and Berroa.

Orel said...

Adrian Gonzalez hates us all.

karina said...

Kershaw makes a sac bunt and then, Pierre grounds out.

Loney Fan said...

Hard ground ball to Berroa. At first it appeared that he caught it in his glove and simply hitched so many times that he could not make the play. Upon review it showed that Berroa trapped the ball between his glove and his stomach. As he went into his glove he realized that it was inside of his shirt. He then cleverly covers it with his glove so that no one can tell what is happening and the runner does not attempt to advance. After calling time with the second base ump he has to take his glove off and unbutton his shirt in order to get it out. Watching it up close on camera it is unbelievable that the ball could even fit between two buttons. Camera angles also showed Matt Kemp in the dugout laughing out loud as he watched it unfold. According to Vin, the team taped his shirt closed as a joke between innings.

"Kershaw right back, drops Uncle Charlie in there, that big slow curveball...." —Vin

Loney Fan said...

As we write, I am sure the Sons are working on pics/videos along with puns involving Berroa, magic, and the Vegas 51's

Orel said...

Ethier triples! I will be sad when he takes maternity leave.

karina said...

Oh my, we'll have Pierre starting in consecutive days...how many days will he have to take?

karina said...

Loney fan, that play was unbelievable, i hope i can watch it somewhere tomorrow.

Orel said...

LF, you give us too much credit.

karina said...

Manny sac-fly. Ethier scores.

Dodgers 3- Padres 0

Orel said...

Kershaw at 30 pitches through three, by the way.

karina said...

That's his average for the first inning. Way to go!

Orel said...

Maddux needs to retire and become a pitching coach.

Casey Blake with the nifty stop at third! That never hurts a pitcher!

karina said...

Kershaw: 39 pitches, 4 IP, 4 K, 0 BB. Impressive.

If he retires and becomes a pitching coach, the Dodgers should hire him.

Orel said...

DeWitt DeGone! 4-0 Dodgers!

Orel said...

Agreed, Karina. Although he would be the most expensive pitching coach ever.

Damon said...

Take that LaRoche

karina said...

But he will be worth every penny.

Do you imagine Maddux as the pitching coach for the Giants or the Reds?

karina said...

Kershaw singles! men at first and second, no outs!

However, Pierre is up.

Orel said...

Rancho Ardiendo...for Manny!

karina said...

Pierre made a sac bunt...Ethier walked.

Orel said...

Maddux and Lincecum would be a frightening combination.

karina said...

I love these younglings.

Booger said...

We got Bush, we got bush...

Orel said...

7-0 Cards leading the D'backs.

karina said...

and Cain, that pitcher is quite talented.

How about the Reds? with the quality of young arms over there, i imagine world domination.

karina said...

Manny K. Go King James!

karina said...

King James 2-run single!

Loney Fan said...

Great day for baseball, but I have to run. Have a great night everyone. Think not blowing it Dodgers!

karina said...

May the force be with you, Loney fan.

Orel said...

Glad Kershaw gets a chance to cool off in the dugout with the Dodgers still batting.

karina said...

Martin RBI single! Dodgers 7- Padres 0

Orel said...

Padres get their first hit in the fifth.

karina said...

Kershaw got out of the jam!

Orel said...

old friend Falkenborg

karina said...

Ol' Falkenborg at the mound...

karina said...

and of course, dominates the Dodgers offense in 10 pitches.

Orel said...

Kershaw is cruising. This is just a taste of how good he can be.

Of course, it's the Padres, so we shouldn't get too cocky.

Orel said...

ETHIER HR! He's a double away from the cycle!

karina said...

Ethier HR! he wants to make up for his future lost time...

karina said...

It's nice Torre is playing the september call-ups.

Orel said...

Kershaw gives up a single (I think) and double. Time to pull him, Joe.

Orel said...

Nice play by DeWitt. 8-1 Dodgers. Coincidentally, Cards lead the D'backs 8-1. I love symmetry.

Orel said...

Karina, when does the Águilas season start?

karina said...

October 17th

Orel said...

With any luck Águilas and Dodgers will be playing at the same time!

Orel said...

Wow, they're leaving Kershaw in.

Orel said...

The kid is learning to bunt.

Orel said...

Good job by DeWitt trying to bird-dog the third baseman.

Pierre's hurt. Looks like a hamstring injury.

Orel said...

The rare three-HR game for the Dodgers: Manny, DeWitt & Ethier.

Orel said...

Matt Kemp in CF for Pierre. Sporting jaunty cap.

Orel said...

Will Pierre blame his injury on not playing enough?

karina said...

I hope so! i'd love to be stressed for the Aguilas and Dodgers game at the same time...

karina said...

Does Kershaw look tired?

Orel said...

Kershaw walks Giles. Torre finally pulls him. Crowd giving Kershaw a standing O, that's nice.

Orel said...

Kershaw didn't look tired but his command was slipping.

karina said...

Kid deserves it. I guess it'll be one of too many.

Orel said...

Padres making a run. Don't go home just yet, folks. 8-4 Dodgers.

Torre bringing Beimel in. Good move.

karina said...

Tigres de Aragua (Cabrera and Maza's teammate) Rodriguez with the RBI double.

Orel said...

Ball went off Loney's glove but Hu was backing up the play and got him a first. Now that's a defensive replacement!

Steve Sax said...

And just like that, it's 8-4 Dodgers. Nice job Hu to back up Loney who deflected the ball.

karina said...

As i previously stated, we could use this "blue leader" in the bullpen:

http://tinyurl.com/69m8hx

Steve Sax said...

DeWitt gets out #2, but shouldn't he have held the runner at second? Friar on third.

Orel said...

With a four-run lead, I guess you go for the force out.

Beimel gets us out of the inning!

Karina, do you suppose Obi-Wan throws lefty or righty?

karina said...

He grabs the lightsaber with the right hand, so i guess he's a righty.

Steve Sax said...

Come on Andre, get the double...

karina said...

Loved your force out pun!

Orel said...

No cycle for Andre.

Orel said...

Karina, believe it or not that was not intended as a pun! But I'll take the credit anyway!

Steve Sax said...

No cycle for Andre.

But former Dodger Adrian Beltre got one yesterday!

Nice to see Repko back up here.

karina said...

It'd be the Dodgers response to the Guzman cycle. I still can't believe Guzman and Feliz owned the Dodgers.

karina said...

Repko singles!

karina said...

and steals second...

Steve Sax said...

Repko with the hit! Welcome back, Colin Farrell!

And then Repko swipes second without even a tag!

Loney takes his 2-for-4 night and works the count full before coaxing the walk.

Orel said...

Some Geico for the Dodgers, perhaps?

Or should it be Aflac?

Orel said...

The Guzman cycle I could handle. Feliz owning the Dodgers...not so much.

Orel said...

Cards make it official. Let's make it 1.5!

Steve Sax said...

Martin GIDP. On to the ninth, 8-4.

karina said...

It was heartbreaking.

karina said...

If Repko looks like Colin Farrell, do you see some resemblance of Andruw jones with this guy?

http://tinyurl.com/5mbhgn

karina said...

and i promise i won't talk any Star Wars...

Steve Sax said...

Beimel continues on in the ninth. I need to go take a shower.

Orel said...

Leadoff single for the Padres. Let's not make this more difficult than it has to be.

Orel said...

Are you kidding, Karina? No such thing as too much Star Wars. Although I haven't seen the Clone Wars movie yet.

Orel said...

5-4-3 DP!

Orel said...

I got #100, by the way!

karina said...

Well, that's how my kind of person talks. There's never enough baseball and Star Wars.

We should use the Force more often.

Orel said...

1.5! 1.5! 1.5!

Orel said...

Great job, Luke Skywalkershaw!

karina said...

Most fans hated The Clone Wars. I liked it because i never expected the life changing experience of the original trilogy.

Steve Sax said...

Yikes, we have to face Haren, Webb, and Johnson this weekend against Arizona?

Better save up some hits for the weekend, Dodgers!

Good night, everybody!

Orel said...

Lowered expectations are always a good idea. Even in baseball.

Orel said...

Night, Sax!

karina said...

Great nick for the Public Enemy #1!

karina said...

Night, may the force be with you...

Orel said...

As with you.

Steve Sax said...

Good news: Dodger bats were Cha Seung Baek early

Bad news: I only thought of that pun now, almost an hour after the game ended

Orel said...

It's your quick wit that impresses.

Steve Sax said...

I suppose I am just Cha Seung my spots carefully.
