Greg Maddux (7-11, 4.18) vs. Cha Seung Baek (4-10, 5.36).
COMMENTS: On paper, there is no way the Dodgers could lose this game. We start the Professor, whose knowledge of the San Diego team resulted in a win on 9/1. They start Baek, un perdedor, whose last start was against us and resulted in an LA win on 9/2. The Dodgers are riding an eight-game win streak which includes a sweep of the Padres; San Diego is 33 games under .500 and so far out of the race, they're out of next year's race as well. So why is ESPN's AccuScore only giving the Dodgers a slight edge (54% at press time)? Because this is the type of game the Dodgers are likely to lose, no matter how good it looks on paper. MLB games aren't played on paper (unless of course they're Strat-O-Matic games). So let's see if we can come into Petco Park and not get muzzled.

If anyone plans on visiting Petco Park anytime soon, I recommend checking out the Hall of Fame Bar. It's on the 4th floor of the Western Metal Supply Building and has a porch that has open seating until the end of the 3rd inning. It's a cool way to check out the last place Padres.
Petco Park is indeed a beautiful ballpark. The ushers were extremely kind--and I like the fact that they didn't let pedestrian traffic down into the seating aisles until after each at bat finished.
Having said that, I hope we win today.
Martin, first pitch swinging, pops to short. Come on, Russ!
Ethier fouling balls off, as usual
Ethier grounds out, Vin mistakenly calls him Adrian.
Manny flies to right. 1-2-3 inning.
Hey guys. It's 8pm here and I've been drunk for hours. Hopefully I'll get to watch a few minutes of the game, but I can't promise anything, since we have a Nerts tournament starting any minute (it's a card game--look it up to see the rules).
Anyway, yeah. Go Dodgers!
Giles smokes a leadoff double.
Great start. Two out, two run home run for the Padres. Sweet.
As soon as Vin says Adrian Gonzalez hasn't hit HRs late in the season, gonzalez crushes on. 2-0 SD, who is on pace to win 16-0.
Cha Seung Baek is NAILS!
Hey Erin! Don't hurt anyone in your Nerts tourney!
Oh boy, Maddux is getting cuffed around.
No score in SF.
3-0 SD. Let's hope the Dodgers can get some small ball going.
Torre burned a lot of the relievers in yesterday's win. Will he sacrifice Maddux in order to keep them fresh for the final two games?
Ethier singles. Giles prevents the double.
Baek gets Manny on an infield flare. When did Baek turn into Cy Young?
Baek has shut down the Dodgers over four.
SF 4, AZ 0, bot 3!
DeWitt just missed a HR. Foul ball.
1st & 2nd w/1 out. But Berroa's up.
Meanwhile, 5-0 Giants.
Berroa moves 'em over. 2nd & 3rd for Maddux. Can he help his own cause?
No.
Sexy Baek is seeking revenge. Don't let him, boys!
4-0 SD now. Still 5-0 SF.
Baek may be too sexy for us tonight.
Manny K's.
Maddux goes six. Since we're losing, don't be surprised to see Torre try to stretch him to seven.
I wonder if we can get to SD's bullpen.
3-U DP. That's the kind of day it's been.
Elbert starts the 7th.
Juan Pierre sighting!
Diving, rolling catch by Headley. We were never meant to win this game.
6-0 Giants.
Lincecum is rolling...i'm watching the game while talking to the phone...
Ethier doubles, his third hit of the night. He is EN FUEGO.
Well at least Andre is hitting.
Ethier doubled!
At least SF is up 6-0...
That's a conflict of interests...
Lincecum went for the complete game, however he left with Rancho Ardiendo and one out.
A loss...Orel was right, it wasn't meant to be.
I am now rooting for someone named Alex Hinshaw.
In play, run(s)
For a player...never for the entire team, right?
6-2 SF, 2 out....
It's over. Arizona lost..still the Dodgers are up 1.5 games over them.
Giants win!
No ground lost. Night, all!
