Scoreboard Watching, Part Deux: D'Backs @ Cards, 11.15a

Diamondbacks' Doug Davis (6-8, 4.25) vs. Cardinals' Joel Piniero (6-7, 5.21).

The last time we did a "Scoreboard Watching" post, it didn't work out so well for us. But we're going to try, try again (this time, with the starting pitching matchup in italics!) because:

  • The game comes over our lunch hour, giving us something to do at our desks besides read the depressing news in the Wall Street Journal;
  • If the Cardinals win, the Dodgers will have clinched the NL West even before they take the field tonight;
  • If the Cardinals lose, the Dodgers still have a chance to take care of business at home against the Padres this evening.

Eight remaining opportunities, and all we need is one favorable outcome. Put on your Cardinals hats, party people!

Does this mean we have to comment in italics?

Do you think people will start tilting their heads to read the comments after a while?

Alex Cora said...

WOOHOO!!! I just got tickets for tonight's game!

karina said...

game tied, gotta go, very busy day...GO CARDS!

congrats Alex for those tickets!

Erin said...

AC, I'll be there, too, in Field 47.

karina said...

game tied due to an Izturis triple, 2 outs...after taking 9 pitches, Lopez grounds out, urgh.

i'm gonna be late, but i just couldn't leave Izturis stranded at third

Alex Cora said...

Ahhh it is tied!!!

Alex Cora said...

Erin: I think I am in the Lodge section 114 row A, so look UP since you are in the field section!

In the bottom of the 5ht the Cards have the bases loaded with nobody out and can't get a single run across. Still tied after 5.

Alex Cora said...

4-3 Cards!!! I know I am playing with fire, but man, it would be nice to attend that game where the dodgers clinch it...

Alex Cora said...

FIVE TO THREEE!!!!!

Orel said...

5-3 Cards!

Steve Sax said...

5-3 Cardinals thanks to a two-out sinle by Troy Glaus. Jason LaRue strands two to end the inning; we go to the seventh inning, 5-3.

Steve Sax said...

Middle of the seventh, AZ went down 1-2-3.

Snakes could be down to their final six outs of contention.

Steve Sax said...

Kennedy triples and scores on an Aaron Miles single. 6-3 Cards, none out, man on first.

Orel said...

6-3!

Alex Cora said...

6-3!!!

Orel said...

All hail Albert Pujols! 9-3 Cards!

Steve Sax said...

PUJOLS WITH A THREE-RUN HOMER!!! 9-3 Cardinals

Steve Sax said...

Clearly, my calling out of Pujols after his 0-for-2 in game 1 of the series paid dividends.

So I guess I owe him that Aaron award vote, after all. Okay.

Steve Sax said...

10-3 on a Ludwick solo homer. And LaRue, once again, ends the inning.

On to the eighth inning!!!

Alex Cora said...

IT IS OVER!!!! 10-3

Alex Cora said...

I will call it early. No way the dbacks come back from this deficit. Thanks Cards!!! Now I wonder who they are going to play tonight - Furcal at short? Ozuna, Berrora. Rest Manny, Loney, Kemp, Blake and Martin. Get them drunk in the back.

Steve Sax said...

Conor Jackson grounds out to strand Jeff Salazar at third. End of the eighth inning. Arizona is down to its last three outs of contention, down 10-3.

Steve Sax said...

AC, keep it in the pants. Don't break out the beer just yet...

Erin said...

Playoffs, here we come! Just got my tickets for game three (home game one) of the divisional series.

Erin said...

You think they'll already have "N.L. West Champions" gear for sale at the stadium tonight?

Orel said...

It's Frank McCourt, Erin. Of course they will.

Steve Sax said...

two on (second and third), two out, bottom of the eighth, Cards still up 10-3. Filepe Lopez at the plate.

Steve Sax said...

12-3 on a Felipe Lopez single! Sorry for misspelling his name last time!

Erin said...

Yeah, Orel, as soon as I wrote that comment, I realized McCourt is probably stocking the shelves himself at this very moment.

Steve Sax said...

erin and orel, I think the shirts will say "Your 2008 NL West Champion Frank-McCourt-delivered Los Angeles Dodgers"

Or, "2008 NL West Champions, The Los Angeles McCourts"

Steve Sax said...

McCourt is ironing the number "8" on top of the number "4" from the old 2004 NL West Champion shirts

Steve Sax said...

12-3, end of eight. Off to the ninth we go!

Alex Cora said...

Or NL west champs FRANK MCCOURT (time permitting Manny ramirez)

Alex Cora said...

I think tonight I will see Sweeney at first, Ozuna at 2nd. Furcal at ss, DeWitt at Third with Repko, Pierre and the batboy in the outfield with ardoin behind the plate.

Steve Sax said...

Alex Romero pops out. AZ down to its last two outs.

Erin said...

Maybe all the regulars will want to play in front of the home crowd tonight, for the fun of it, and then rest in San Fran.

Steve Sax said...

Whitesell walks, one out.

AC, if Sweeney gets four at bats tonight, do you think he will get on base ONCE?

Orel said...

Wow, Cards lead 12-3. Not much for subtlety are they.

Steve Sax said...

PH Robby Hammock refuses to nap between trees, and singles. Two on, one out. Still 12-3.

Alex Cora said...

NO

Alex Cora said...

Down to the LAST OUT!!!

Steve Sax said...

D'Antona Ks. One out left for AZ.

Alex Cora said...

Where's the Fat Lady?

Alex Cora said...

Not around, maybe Andruw Jones can fill in (rim shot!)

Erin said...

WHOOO!!!!!!!

Steve Sax said...

There it is!

DODGERS CLINCH NL WEST!!!

Alex Cora said...

IT IS OVER!!!! Dodgers win!!!

Alex Cora said...

See yall at the game!!!

Orel said...
