Woohoo! I hope I can hang on to it now that I have secured some gainful employment starting soon.

Yes, well done Jose. I double-checked the math. With your impressive consistency the last several puzzles (regardless of what type of puzzle we've thrown your way), and with Quad losing an unusually large sum off the back end via the rolling-7 puzzle methodology, you've barely edged your way to the top. Congrats!

Congrats on your success Jose. It's going to be a close race down the stretch.

EK, just curious, but how did I lose 120 points between the last pcs rankings and this one? That's assuming I received 15 points for participation on puzzle #9. Wouldn't 100 points be the max that I could lose from one puzzle falling off the back end?

Quad - Good question. So when I first started the rankings, I awarded the winner either 80, 100, 120 points, depending on my admittedly subjective and flawed judgment of difficulty level (easy, medium, or difficult). 2nd place got 67% of that amount, and all other correct guesses got 50%. Participation was 10%, which I have since adjusted to either 10% or 15%, depending on if just a comment was posted vs if an actual attempt was submitted.

Just FYI, these days, I've moved away from awarding 80 or 120 point except perhaps in very extreme cases. Almost all puzzles will be at the standard 100 point level.

Anyways, after this last puzzle, on the back-end you lost 120 points from the 'Get Well Raf" puzzle which you won and which at the time I categorized as difficult. Today that same puzzle would probably be only 100 points.

So there's the basic scoring methodology revealed. I still reserve the right for subjective judgment calls if needed, and perhaps adjust the scoring methodology further.

But here's a scary thought: both you (Quad) and 3rd place Orel are due to lose more points off the back-end the next few puzzles. That won't start happening to Jose until three puzzles from now.

So thank god he got a job.

Thanks for the explanation EK. Now lets see if I can break out of my 4 puzzle slump and win one for a change.
