Random rantings and ravings about the Los Angeles Dodgers, written by a small consortium of rabid Dodger fans. With occasional comments on baseball, entertainment, pop culture, and life in general.

Apparently the umpire will be calling strikes twelve inches off the plate. I hope Maddux gets the same courtesy.
Ethier HR!
With Steiner prattling on about the hitter-friendly dimensions of the park, Ethier proves him right and hits one out to the left field seats. 1-0, Dodgers!
Am I alone for now?
Oops. Guess not.
One pitch, one out for Maddux. Good efficiency so far.
Three pitches, two outs.
At this rate, Maddux could pitch two complete games tonight.
A five-pitch inning. Welcome back, Maddux.
Man, Steiner and Lyons can't get enough of talking about Philly fans booing their own. Like no one has ever heard these "jokes."
There's all this talk about Jimmy Rollins referring to Philly fans as "front runners." As far as I knew, that word was used to define someone leading a race (generally a political one). Somehow, everyone else seems to know it to mean "fair weather fans." Am I crazy?
Blake gets on base by getting beaned in the head. Let's see what Maddux can do with the bat.
Steiner, talking about Maddux facing Moyer in Maddux's last start:
"Between the two of them, 48 years of living."
What? I'm pretty sure he meant to say 88, since that's about the sum of their ages.
Two innings, eleven pitches for Maddux.
Greg Maddux ate his Wheaties this morning. 11 pitches through two innings.
Did he mean 48 years of pitching?
That "front-runner" comment confused me as well. Sounds like a compliment.
He may very well have meant pitching, but he definitely said living. Anyway you look at it, Steiner was confused.
I hate hits like the one Jenkins just got. No chance for a no-hitter tonight.
I hate to harp on things Steiner says, but I will anyway. Over a shot of different things (hot dogs, sausages) cooking on a grill at the Philly park, Steiner says:
"Only in Philadelphia is the gas price contained."
Is that a flatulence joke? I don't get it.
Crap. 2-1, Phillies, thanks to a walk and a Howard home run.
And just like that, we're losing. Enjoy that one run of run support, Greg.
Two out walks will kill you. Still just 42 pitches through four innings for Maddux, but now he's on the losing end.
We should be beating up Kendrick, so it's time we start.
I don't get that gas comment.
Seems like this will be another one of those games, when the Dodgers should completely shell the opposing pitcher, but instead they'll make him look like a Cy Young candidate.
Third baseman for the Phillies hits a bunt single. I would love to see Blake do the same thing in the next at-bat. Seems like a lame thing for one third baseman to do to the other.
And another error for the Dodgers. Loney just flat out missed the ball on a snap throw to first.
Martin is playing noticeably worse defense this year.
Was that error on Loney?
Maybe the Dodgers should have hired Maddux as a pitching coach.
The bloom appears to be off the rose. Maddux gives up a single up the middle with runners at the corners. 3-1, Phillies.
And once again the Dodgers will be left to lament the fact that they could have really punished a pitcher, and didn't get it done.
They gave the error to Martin, which is pretty questionable. It was a perfect throw, and Loney missed it. Lyons also said Loney was "lazy" in getting back to the base.
Utley has struck out twice on two nasty, nasty pitches from Maddux. So The Professor minimizes the damage, but the Dodgers are still in a 3-1 hole.
Let's get some hits!
We are hitting balls right at them.
At the least we are making Kendrick throw a lot of pitches.
Martin continues his downward spiral, and pops up with two men on. Looks like shaving didn't stop his slump.
I swear I have never seen a more schizophrenic team.
Oh my dear god. Tanyon Sturtze is warming in the 'pen.
Bases loaded with one out, Jayson Werth at the plate.
Let's see if Maddux can get out of this bases-loaded jam.
It's always great when a team decided to come out of a three-week hitting slump right when we come to town.
*decides
I really feel like screaming. 4-1, Phillies.
And now I think I will scream. 7-1, Phillies. Game over. Go about your regular Friday night plans.
WHITE FLAG
How nice of the Dodgers to lose just in time for dinner.
The Dodger offense is as much to blame for this as Maddux. They should have given Maddux the lead more than once, but they decided to be the light hitting Dodgers tonight.
Steiner, I hate you. "The Coste is clear." That doesn't even mean anything!
Ah, but it sounds clever. Unlike the gas comment.
Oh, but good news: with two outs in the seventh in a six-run game, Sweeney chooses to get a hit. Asshole.
When we're down by six runs, you can always count on Sweeney to hit a single. That guy is so clutch.
I guess we get a little bitter when the Dodgers are losing, huh.
Just a bit. And I'm afraid it will only get worse from here. Apparently in the month of August, at least through tonight, the only team that had scored fewer runs than the Phillies was the Pirates. I like Philadelphia's chance to change that, and in a hurry, against the Dodgers this weekend.
8-1 now. You just know the Phillies would love a four-game sweep.
Here we go...two grand slams will win this thing.
LONEY SINGLE
I just saw your latest bid, Erin!
Fittingly, Nomar GIDP to end it.
Maddux and the Dodgers get clobbered. I knew this was going to happen.
Did you also predict the D'backs loss? (Finally!)
Monsieur Nostradamus, do you take personal requests?
